Maahs, Richard H. 'Dick'
Richard H. “Dick” Maahs, 68, of 103 McDermott Court, Epworth, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at his home in Epworth.
Friends and relatives of Dick may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m.
Services for Dick will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Epworth, with Rev. John P. Ptacek officiating. Burial will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Epworth.
Richard was born March 26, 1941 in Potosi, Wisc., son of Edward and Katherine (Schneller) Maahs. He received his education at St. Columbkille's and Washington Jr. High, and is a graduate of Senior High School, Dubuque. On June 30, 1962 he was united in marriage to Martha L. Featherston at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade.
Dick was employed at Hilldale Dairy and then at Riverside Tractor Trailer in Dubuque, He later owned and operated Maahs's Service Station in Farley and Epworth until his retirement. Dick was an inducted member of the Dubuque Fast Pitch Hall of Fame.
Dick enjoyed spending his free time watching his grandchildren's ball games, and in the winter he enjoyed plowing snow with his truck. Never was it known for Dick to pass up a good card game. He was recently blessed with his first great grandchild, and was very proud to be one of the five generations.
He was a member of St. Patirck's Parish, Epworth.
He is survived by one daughter, Niki (Steve) Perrenoud of Farley; three sons, Tony (Kim) Maahs, and Bruce “Wattuse” (Lori) Maahs both of Epworth, and Mike (Susie) Maahs of Dyersville; 10 grandchildren, Bill, Amanda and Eric Maahs, Cole and Casey Perrenoud, Megan, McKenzie, and Madison Maahs, Ashley (Seth) Ferrie and Mitchell Maahs.; one great grandchild, Aubrie Ferrie.; his mother, Kathrine “Kay” Maahs of Dubuque; two sisters, Karen Harmon and Debra Steichen both of Machesney Park, Ill.
He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Maahs in 1994; his wife, Martha L. “Mootie” Maahs on July 2, 2000.
A Richard H. Maahs memorial fund has been established.
