Kreutner, Robert L. “Bob”
Robert L. “Bob” Kreutner, 74, died Jan. 28, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church in Shellsburg with Pastor Mark Leckband officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg with graveside military rites conducted by Ray and Virginia Boyer American Legion Post #166 of Shellsburg and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St in Vinton. A memorial fund has been established.
Robert LeRoy Kreutner was born Feb. 5, 1938, in Cedar Rapids to Walter and Hazel (Bennett) Kreutner, and graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1955.
During the Korean War he served his nation in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Ray and Virginia Boyer American Legion Post #166 of Shellsburg.
On April 8, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sharon Virginia Weets in Cedar Rapids. Bob farmed in the Shellsburg area and was a customer service agent for United Airlines.
Known to his family and many friends as “Bob” or lovingly as “Hey Bob”, his favorite response was usually “Ya but”. He will be remembered as an active member of the Shellsburg community who enjoyed membership at Zion Lutheran Church and the Shellsburg Lions Club. In his leisure he loved fishing “for the really big one”, farming, and spending time with family and friends.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Sharon of Shellsburg; his children, Bruce (Shelly) Kreutner of Palo, Kimberly (Jim) Draker of Palo, and Debra (Rick) Nugent of Vinton; his grandchildren, Drew Richard Kreutner, Paige Michelle Kreutner, Madison Draker, Kody Corum, Colton Draker, and Rachel Nugent; his sister, Shirley More of Sun City, Ariz.; and his nephews, Scott and David “Joe” Newland, his niece, Karen Davidson, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Waldo Kreutner; his nephew, Marc Newland; and his niece. Kathy Newland.
