Kinkead, Ronald George
Ronald George Kinkead, 66, of Hayesville, N.C., formerly of Cedar Rapids, and Fort Myers and Ocala, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Ron was born in Cedar Rapids on August 18, 1944, to the late George Kinkead and Mildred Grimm Frazier. He was married to Susie Fitton on July 15, 1972. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Ron worked for many years for Iowa Electric Light and Power Company in Cedar Rapids and was self-employed in real estate and development in Fort Myers and Ocala, Fla., prior to moving to Hayesville in 2006.
Throughout his life, Ron devoted much of his time working with youth and participating in projects to help protect the environment. Ron loved Clay County; the people, the creeks, the mountains and the countryside. Drawn to the outdoors, Ron also enjoyed boating, hiking and landscaping.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Susie of Hayesville; by sisters, Doris Erickson of Oxford Junction, and Judy Faaborg Woods, Faye Wade and Peggy DeJong; and brothers Jim and David Kinkead, all of Cedar Rapids.
Survivors also include many nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
A devout member of Hayesville First United Methodist Church, Ron supported church children and youth programs. He was also a member of The Board of Trustees and The Band of Brothers. He was a member of the local George Lee American Legion Post 532.
A memorial service will be held at Hayesville First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, Ron asks that his relatives and friends visit someone they love or spend time with a child in memory of him. Memorials may be made in Ron’s name to the Hayesville First United Methodist Church Sanctuary Fund, Hayesville, NC or th the Hayesville Elementary School Library.
May God’s love lift Mr. Ron home to Heaven on angel’s wings and may He hold him in the palm of His hand until we are together again.
