Gerald Dean Kenney

Gerald Dean Kenney, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Vinton on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012. Per Dean’s wishes he will be cremated with no services. The family will greet friends at the Izaak Walton building north of Vinton from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Gerald Dean Kenney was born Aug. 15, 1934, to Louis and Leta Mae (Rogers) Kenney. Dean proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean conflict. On Oct. 8, 1966, he was united in marriage to Beverly (Rogers) Floyd in Vinton. Before his illness Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. His greatest joy was his family.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Vinton; four sons, Jerry Kenney, Vinton, John Kenney, Cedar Rapids, Steven (Vicki) Floyd, Kellogg and Gordon (Teresa) Floyd, Vinton; daughter, Barbara Yerkes, Independence; brothers, Dick (Joyce) Kenney and Darrell (Janet) Kenney; sisters, Mary Lee (Jerry Usher) Vogt and LaVonne Kenney, all of Vinton; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
