Virgil J. Kasper, 82, of Tiffin, died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, where visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Virgil Kasper general fund to be used toward the Tiffin First Responders, University of Iowa Dialysis program, and the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
Virgil was born June 29, 1930, in Iowa City, the son of Elmer and Mary Kasper. Virgil was a graduate of University High School in Iowa City. He served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953. On May 7, 1955, Virgil married Darlene Smith. He worked as a plumber for Larew Plumbing & Heating for nearly 40 years before his retirement in 1995.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 57 years, Darlene; three children, Randy (Dawn) Kasper, Vicki (Gary) Metz and Monte (Cindy) Kasper; six grandchildren, Brandon (Alicia) Kasper, Melana Kasper, Torri (Chad) Klein, Daniel Metz, Travis Kasper and Heather Kasper and her fiance Eric Duhachek; two great-grandchildren, Meredith Kasper and Owen Kasper; another great-grandchild due in March; and a brother, Glenn (Pat) Kasper.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Robert (Margaret) Kasper and Duane (Mary) Kasper.
