Dillon Douglas "Duke" Jones

Dillon Douglas “Duke” Jones, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012. Dillon’s funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Christ Church Presbyterian, 2000 First Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids. Dillon’s visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 2, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon, IA. Graveside services for Doug will be 1:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville.

Dillon is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Cedar Rapids; his two children, Jodi (Don) Volesky, Shueyville, and Todd (Bonnie) Jones, Parkville, Mo.; and a brother, Terry (Avis) Jones, Mechanicsville. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Taylor and Dillon Volesky and Annie and Emma Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dillon in death were his parents.

Doug was born June 18, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the second son of Charles “Dillon” and Fern (Rullman) Jones. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966 at Stanwood, Iowa. Dillon enlisted in the Army, serving in Vietnam. He married Marilyn Robinson on Nov. 8, 1969, in Mechanicsville.

Doug retired after 38 years from Qwest Communications in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of Christ Church Presbyterian for 37 years, serving as an elder and deacon.

Family meant the world to Dillon, never missing any of his children’s or grandchildren’s events.

A memorial fund has been established.
