James Darwin Hartgrave

James Darwin Hartgrave, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at his daughter’s home. Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral Home. Burial: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Grundy Center.

Survivors include his children, Joe Dean (Elena) Hartgrave Jr. of Iowa City and Lynnice (Rick) Wedewer of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Joe Jr., Chad, Amber and Jamie; great-grandson, Joseph; and siblings, Bob Hartgrave of Fairfax, Betty Craddock of Vinton and Franny Porter of Vinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Presley and Ethel Hartgrave; wife, Pearl; two sons, Jaime and Darwin; and nine brothers and sisters.

James was born on Sept. 21, 1931, in Marengo, Iowa, son of Charles Presley and Ethel Hartgrave. He was a foreman at Iowa Concrete Products for 30 years. James was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and also a supporter of National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial fund and The American Cancer Society.
