Grady, Carmeletta J. “Jackie”

Carmeletta J. “Jackie” Grady, 84, of Iowa City, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City. Funeral Mass will begin 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. The Rev. John Spiegel will officiate. Visitation will be at the church Wednesday from noon until service time. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Jackie was born Feb. 20, 1928, in Kalona, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Demory) Grady. Moving with her family in 1937 to Iowa City at a young age, Jackie has been an Iowa City resident all of her life. She worked in the dietary department at University of Iowa Hospitals for 50 years, retiring in 1998.

Jackie was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Altar & Rosary Society and in her down time, enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Russell “Jim” Frank (Jeannie) of Riverside, Dale Nelson of Lone Tree, Kay Nora (Jack) of California, Dan Grady (Nancy) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jerry Grady (Sheila) of Des Moines and Patty Grady of Iowa City; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and longtime friend, Mary Kay Zimmerman of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Tim, Henry and Bob; two sisters, Mildred Peters and Margaret Frank; a nephew, Tim Grady; and a niece, Jo Ann Nelson.

Instead of flowers, Jackie requested memorials be directed to Friends of the Animal Center Foundation.
