Paul Edward Gorton

Paul Edward Gorton, 67, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Paul donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine for scientific purposes. A private family memorial service will be held Monday at St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church to celebrate Paul’s life. The service will be conducted by Deacon Jim Berger. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Gorton of Cedar Rapids; children, Cindy (Dan) Martin of Cedar Rapids, Michele (Richard) Mumm of Walford, Iowa, and Robert Gorton of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Taryn and Bryce Meeker, Avery and McKenna Mumm and Alex Gorton; siblings, Tom (Joanne) Gorton of Waterloo, Cheryl (Dale) Dutcher of Rosburg, Wash., Bob (Susan) Gorton of Marion and Joan (Jerry) Butler of Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pauline Gorton.

Paul was born June 21, 1945, in Waterloo, son of Walter and Pauline (Klipping) Gorton. He married Marie Lentz on Jan. 15, 1966, in Newport, R.I. Paul was recently retired and was a former owner of Trace Machine and Tools in Chippewa Falls, Wis. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Paul loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed archery, building bows, hunting, the Green Bay Packers, going on walks and being in the woods. He was a man of undying faith.
