Gauger, Wayne Edward
Wayne Edward Gauger, 72, of Cedar Rapids, peacefully stepped into his next life on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, surrounded by his loving family. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Craig Bex, with Military Honors by American Legion Post 727. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington. Friends may visit with the family Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and Monday after 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; his son, Mike (Cathy) Gauger of Center Point; two daughters, Kelly (Victor) Jacobs and Amy Olds, both of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren Alyssa Gauger, Taymara Olds, Kayleigh Gauger, Mason Jacobs, Nolan Jacobs, Erin Gauger, Lucas Gauger and April Tusing; a brother, Robert Gauger of Fond du Lac, Wis.; three sisters, Barbara Resop and Sharon (Ron) Jurgensmier, both of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Elaine (Ray) Thelen of Campbellsport, Wis.; and many special nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Rich Resop; and a sister-in-law, Joann Gauger.
Wayne was born Dec. 20, 1939, in Oshkosh, Wis., the son of Harold and Irene (Ruck) Gauger. He married Mary Jo Murphy on June 19, 1960, in Hudson. He was a general contractor and owner of Gauger Siding and Construction Co. until his retirement in 2004. He was an Air Force veteran.
Wayne was known for his great sense of humor which helped him face numerous health issues throughout the years. He loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to visiting family in Wisconsin for a good steak and game of cards. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and cheering for the Packers.
