Gaffey, Christy
Christy Gaffey, 52, of Arlington, Va., passed away peacefully on Feb. 9, 2012, at her parent's home in Williamsburg, Iowa. Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Father Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Holbrook. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Christy was born May 24, 1959, in Holbrook, Iowa and graduated from high school in Washington, Iowa and from AIB in Des Moines and Upper Iowa University in Fayette. She enjoyed living and working in Colorado and the Washington, D.C., area.
There were many special friends and colleagues in Christy's life, and she especially enjoyed her career as circulation editor for the weekly edition of the Washington Post.
Christy was a thoughtful lobbyist for the Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS) Association of America during her years in D.C.
Christy was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many and will be greatly missed by her parents, John and Helen Gaffey of Williamsburg; and sisters, Carrie Gaffey of Deerfield, Ill., Pam (Paul) Masterson of Wichita, Kan., Mary Pat Gaffey of El Dorado, Kan., Cindy (Garry) Feldman of Deerfield, Ill., and Jolene (Michael) Smyth of Arlington Heights, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Mick Gaffey; her maternal grandparents, Agnes and Michael O'Meara; and paternal grandparents, Loretta and Joseph Gaffey.
Christy was a special aunt to Rachel, Zach, Jack, Daniel, Liam and Maddy.
A special note of recognition to Christy's many friends/caregivers in the medical community; she received tremendous support throughout her illness.
