Fisher, James A.
James A. Fisher, 74, of Coralville, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at Mercy Hospice.
James was born Jan. 25, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, to James and Arlene Fisher. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids and later enlisted into the United States Navy in 1956. On Nov. 11, 1962, James married Sue Martin.
In 1965 James attended the University of Iowa School of Nursing where he obtained his LPN and was a 1971 graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Iowa City. Following graduation, James worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the Iowa Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.
James loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed doing antique shows and was the manager of the W.S. Antique mall in Cedar Rapids. He also enjoyed working at the Sharpless auction house, flower gardening, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; two children, Scott (Lori) Fisher, and Roma (Troy) Byers; his siblings, Joyce Baker, Janice (Ernie) Osborne, and Judd (Virginia) Fisher; his seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews; and his dear friends, Mary Henry and John (Laura) Martin of Donnellson.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joan; and his brothers-in-law, Joe Baker Sr., Darrell Fye, and Lester Martin.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Novak, the staff at Mercy Hospice, and Iowa City Hospice.
Per Jim’s request, there will not be any services. Memorials may be made to the James Fisher fund.
