Ewald, LeRoy Eugene
LeRoy Eugene Ewald, 67, of Keota, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
LeRoy was born Jan. 30, 1945, in What Cheer, the son of Ray and Neva (Fisher) Ewald, and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1963. In 1965, he was drafted into the Army, where he served for two years. On June 22, 1968, LeRoy married Kathleen Sigler at St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota. He owned and operated LeRoy’s Body Shop for 26 years, then worked for Keota Community Schools for 17 years, retiring in 2008. Following retirement LeRoy worked part time at the Iowa City VA Health Care System and Gretter Motors.
He was a lifetime member of Keota VFW Post 4716, where he served as commander for about 20 years. He also was a member of the American Legion, the Corn Cruisers Car Club, served on the Keota Volunteer Fire Department and coached Little League.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy of Keota; two daughters, Christina (Rex) Brejnik of Ham Lake, Minn., and LeeAnn (Mark) Baumert of Harper; four grandchildren, Brittany and Bailey Baumert, Mason Brejnik and Logan Brejnik; his mother, Neva Ewald of Sigourney; two sisters, Linda (Denny) Weber and Nancy (Steve) Quell of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Ron Ewald of West Branch and Gary Ewald of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for Hope Lodge or the Iowa Donor Network.
