Coppess, Donald Keith
Donald Keith Coppess, 79, of Stanwood, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at the Mechanicsville Rehab and Care Center after a short illness. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, Stanwood Union Church with Pastor Phil Leipold officiating. Burial: Stanwood Cemetery, with military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence.
Survivors include his sons, Don (Evelyn) of Texas, Delbert (Beverly) of California, Dennis (Linda) of Mechanicsville, and Darren (Cheryl) of Stanwood; a daughter, Debra (Michael) Bixler of Clarence; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Lou (Russ) Rhoads of Marion, Darlene (Bob) Flockhart of Stanwood, Deanna Schnipkoweit of Wyoming, Iowa, and Doris (Dick) McAtee of Wyoming, Iowa; brothers, Dale (Darlene) of Stanwood, Darrell (Joann) of Stanwood, and Delbert of Tipton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parent, his wife and a nephew, Donald Schnipkoweit.
Donald was born June 6,1932 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Howard and Violet FairleyCoppess. He married Lulu Grace Longerbeam on Sept. 27,1952, at Stanwood. She died July 9,2001.
He graduated from Stanwood High School. Donald served in the United States Navy from June 1952 to June 1960 with honors of Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He farmed and worked at Midland Forge in Cedar Rapids. Casual attire would be appreciated at the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
