Cook, Hazel Marie
Hazel Marie Cook, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Nov. 22, 2012, at the Hiawatha Care Center following an extended illness. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Hazel was born March 8, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, to Bert and Mary (Odland) Coleman. She graduated from Toddville High School in 1933. Hazel was married to George Cook and later divorced. Hazel worked as a waitress for many years and retired from serving the public at Armstrong’s Department store.
Hazel is survived by her brother and sister, Bert Coleman and Lena Hass; son, George (Cindy) Cook, and daughter, Francine Cook; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy and Bertha; two brothers, Clarence and George; and one grandson.
Hazel very much enjoyed dancing, fishing, and traveling with her sister. She loved animals and had a special attraction to roosters. Her favorite color was red.
Memorial donations may be given in Hazel’s name to an organization involved with Alzheimer’s disease.
