Jerry N. Bruner, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Paula; mother, Helen Bruner of Cedar Rapids; son, Shawn (Tammy) Bruner of Atkins; grandchildren, Cody Bruner, Jacob and Alysha Bruner and Macen Bruner-Ginther; sisters, Nancy (Jim) Snetzler and Pat Reindl, both of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, Misty Bruner; honorary brother, Al Wright of Garnavillo; honorary daughter-in-law, Rose Schleben; nieces and nephews; and his dog Harley.
Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Mark in 2002; father, Harold in 2003; and his honorary brother, Ron Rehder in 2003.
Born Dec. 15, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jerry was the son of Harold and Helen (Mastin) Bruner. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Aludra during the Vietnam War. On Nov. 2, 1968, he was united in marriage to Paula Brundidge in Cedar Rapids. Jerry worked for the county in road maintenance.
Jerry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion in Davenport and VFW Post 788.
Jerry enjoyed NASCAR, camping, wintering in Mission, Texas, his ‘65 GTO, and was an avid Iowa fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
