Gary L. Bird

Gary L. Bird, 66, of Independence, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 4, 2012, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo following complications from ALS.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn J. Bird, Independence; three children, Randy (Krista) Bird, Lake in the Hills, Ill., Angie Buss, Waterloo, and Erik (Julie) Bird, Bloomsdale, Mo.; 11grandchildren; his father, Gilbert Bird, Waterloo; two sisters, Jacque (Gary) Hauser, Tama, and Karen (Al Hintz) Towlerton, Denver, Iowa; and his mother-in-law, Bonnie McCampbell, Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Independence, with the Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where a military memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.
