Avis, Albert L. (Red)
Albert L. (Red) Avis, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, from a short battle with melanoma cancer. He never complained.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank, with graveside services following at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
He was born Nov. 3, 1938, in Fayette County, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Helen Avis.
He married Janet Shields on June 2, 1962 at Immaculate Conception Church, Fairbank.
Albert retired from Quaker Oats in May 1996, after 38 years.
Albert is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet; two daughter, Diane and Susan of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Charles (Judy) Avis of Toddville; and mother-in-law, Vi Shields of Oelwein.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald.
He enjoyed visiting with people, mushroom hunting, fishing and going to the casino.
Memorials may be directed to the family or St. Luke’s Hospice.
