Armstrong, William “Bill” H.
William “Bill” H. Armstrong, 58, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 2012, at the Iowa City VA Health System. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1900 F Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Dan Wiersema. Friends may visit with the family at the church after 1 p.m. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Bill is survived by his wife, Kathy, of 36 years; mother, Mildred Samuelson Armstrong of Fort Dodge; and siblings, Carol (Jack) Summers of Roland, Cheryl (Richard) Gnade of Webster City, Robert Armstrong of Belle Flower, Calif., and Bruce Armstrong of Oakdale, La.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold F. Armstrong; and a sister, Francine Armstrong.
Bill was born March 4, 1954, in Fort Dodge, the son of Harold Francis and Mildred Marie Samuelson Armstrong. Bill was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. He was a handyman, a “jack-of-all-trades” and loved helping people. He received his Eagle Scout award and God and Country award in Boy Scouts. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1971-1973 as a missile mechanic in Korea and Vietnam, where he received two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star. He met Kathy at Iowa Central Community College and married her Aug. 14, 1976, in Webster City.
