Robert E. Armstrong

Robert E. Armstrong, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012. Funeral services: 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, by Pastor Daniel Winn. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie; sons, Robert (Nancy) Armstrong Jr., Paul Armstrong, Mark Armstrong, and Michael (Jamie) Armstrong; daughters, Deana Ortberg, Maria (Chuck) Downin, and Lisa Armstrong; stepchildren, Richard Armstrong, Jody (Greg) Thompson, Jeff Armstrong, Joe (Lynn) Armstrong, and David Armstrong; brothers, Cecil (Antonietta), James (Jan), and Wayne (Donna); sister, Susie; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert was born June 2, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Glen and Dorothy (Campbell) Armstrong. He worked as a truck mechanic before going to work in maintenance at Meth-Wick, retiring after 27 years. Robert enjoyed playing pool and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Barbara Brown and Edna Barnett; and daughter, Lora Armstrong.
