Phyllis Jean Amthauer

Phyllis Jean Amthauer, 79, of Manchester, died at home Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Phyllis was born Nov. 4, 1933, in Edgewood, Iowa, to Glen (Jake) and Jessie Morley Smock. She married Loren (Gene) Amthauer on Sept. 8, 1951, in Edgewood.

Survivors include five children, Tom (Michelle Letts) of Strawberry Point, Stephen (Jolene) of Delhi, Pixie Cole of Edgewood, Michele “Mick” (Jon Klein) of Dundee and Toni (Jim Lewis) of Manchester; a foster daughter, Sandy Davis of Quasqueton; former son-in-law, Loren Hadenfeldt; one brother, Glen Junior Smock of Dubuque; two sisters-in-law, Mary Fisher of Marion and Linda Smock of Greeley; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Loren, on Sept. 25, 2012; her parents, Jake and Jessie Smock; a grandson, Jason Amthauer; and a brother, Richard Smock.

Phyllis owned the Elite Cafe and later worked as a waitress at Hazels Cafe until retirement.

Phyllis will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
