It’s a big week for Eastern Iowa natives in the Oct. 22, 2012, People magazine, on newstands now.

Hollywood hotshot Ashton Kutcher — who grew up in Cedar Rapids, graduated from Clear Creek Amana High School and attended the University of Iowa — got called out in the MailBag for looking more interested in his cellphone than in girlfriend Mila Kunis. The twosome popped up again on page 18, strolling through Manhattan, and sharing StarTracks space with Princess Kate demurely covered up in a coat (yeah, yeah, she doesn’t go by Princess, but she’s married to Prince Charming) and Kelly Osbourne, purple-haired Princess of Darkness, rocking a bright bikini.

Cedar Rapids native Andrew Shaffer, a writer now living in Lexington, Ky., got a shout out for his “Fifty Shames of Early Grey” novel, touted as one of the three best “Fifty Shades” parodies. Only problem — the magazine used his pen name, Fanny Merkin. But we know the truth behind the alias. (See my previous story for details.)

Turn to page 64 for a full-page photo of Marion native Jennifer Livingston, the La Crosse, Wis., WKBT television news anchor reaching a worldwide audience with her on-air reply to a viewer’s criticism of her weight. Two more pages follow, filled with photos from her childhood to today, including a cutout with her three actor brothers, John, Nick and Ron. The package even includes an apology from her critic.

I read People faithfully, so I’ll let you know when other home ties grab the headlines.
