Last summer, I wrote a story about the Little Free Library movement, focusing on the newest – and littlest – libraries in Eastern Iowa; Solon and Marion, specifically.

Now two more Little Free Libraries have popped up in our area.

The first of four Little Free Libraries for the Longfellow Neighborhood in Iowa City was installed at the corner of Grant Street and Court on September 24.

Plans call for the second Little Free Library will be installed at the southeast corner of the Longfellow School playground, adjacent to the recently refurbished brick paving discovered during PTO cleanup events. The third installation is planned for a corner of the patio at DeLuxe Bakery on Summit Street, and a fourth will be installed at the corner of Sheridan and Seventh.

Gene and Jane Walter of Cedar Rapids recently opened a Little Free Library on their front lawn at 2127 O Ave. NW.

“We have lots of walking traffic here and everyone is thrilled about its new arrival,” Jane wrote in an e-mail telling me about their library.
