Calling all trial live blog fans. Please join my live coverage this week of the Jerome Power murder trial in Linn County District Court.

Jury selection will start 9 a.m. Tuesday and testimony is expected to start Wednesday. My live blog will start with the opening statements. Viewers can ask questions and provide comments as always.

Power, 50, of Cedar Rapids, is charged with first-degree murder in the strangulation death of Doris Bevins, 68, of Cedar Rapids. Bevins was assaulted Sept. 19, 2010 and died the next day. The cause of death was asphyxiation by strangulation, according to a medical examiner’s report.

When police responded to a 911 call about Bevins, officers found Power inside her apartment, hiding behind a entry door. Power told The Gazette in a jailhouse interview he is innocent.

Police haven’t release further details of what they believe happened that night.
