Leaders looking to improve Iowa’s mental health system will speak at a panel on Nov. 6 from 3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Public Library, Whipple Auditorium, 450 Fifth Ave. SE.
Panelists will discuss the challenges facing the state after the closings of the Abbe Center for Community Care in Marion and other similar facilities across the state.
Panel members include: Jackie Smith Duggan,vice president of the National Alliance for Mental Illness Linn County; Kent Jackson, director of children’s specialty services at UnityPoint Health; State Sen. Jack Hatch; State Rep. Dave Heaton; State. Sen. Liz Mathis; Ben Rogers, Linn County supervisor; Reness Schulte, former Iowa legislator and Department of Human Services consultant; Dan Strellner, president of Abbe Inc.; and Al Whitters, medical director of Mercy Behavioral Health.
