OUR MISSION The Gazette's NIE program is dedicated to improving the quality of education in Eastern Iowa communities by putting newspapers in classrooms, and providing free curriculum for teachers to use as they wish. Curriculum tools are provided online or through The Gazette staff to assist educators when utilizing the newspaper in their classrooms. Our goal is to help our youth become literate, knowledgeable, and informed citizens through reading The Gazette. In today's world, technology, history, and ways to receive news are rapidly changing. Textbooks usually used in the classroom are often outdated, many times before their release - making newspapers the most up-to-date textbook. Newspapers also help develop students' creative abilities, improve reading skills, writing skills, research and communication skills. REQUIREMENTS Willingness to sign an electronic or email affidavit confirming your order and use of the paper or online edition in educating students upon The Gazette's request. Provide days school WILL NOT need papers delivered such as holiday and spring breaks during online ordering process. THE PRINT EDITION The Gazette offers a special educational program for the delivery of newspapers to classrooms at no charge! Each classroom is allowed a limit of 1,000 papers per year - free of charge. Once the limit is met, there is a charge of $0.25 a copy. Sponsorship funding makes NIE available for area classrooms. Due to a limited amount of funding, free newspapers are available on a first come first serve basis until funding is depleted.
