One of the most frustrating things over the last decade, for me, was the fact that the Illinois-Iowa football rivalry has been pretty much neutered because of the messed up Big Ten schedule gurus. Growing up in the extreme eastern part of the state (I could see Illinois from my backyard for God’s sake) that [...]

I realize I am probably in the minority but I am not a big fan of night games. I’ve been to a few and yes, the atmosphere can be pretty cool but when you factor in that it gives bozos four more hours to drink and act like fools I tend to overlook that. It [...]

I am a fan of college football. I would even go so far to say that I am a big college football fan. There’s nothing better, for me, than a Fall afternoon at Kinnick……But I draw the line at watching practice. Now, that said, I’ve been to one Spring “game” at Iowa (a few years [...]

I get tired of this debate about KF’s salary. Who wouldn’t accept 3.5 million a year if it was offered? You can argue that his pay is too high for the product (lately) but this notion that he’s pocketing ill gotten booty and happy to just cash a check is so laughable that I’m actually [...]
Mike Williams commented on the blog post Expectations soar for Iowa basketball 1 month, 2 weeks ago · View
I’m hesitant to say this because it seems like every time Iowa (football or basketball) is picked to do great things they disappoint but I’m expecting a Top 3 in the Big Ten finish next year. Maybe something like a 4 or 5 seed in the NCAA.
Mike Williams commented on the blog post NIT apathy covers all but Iowa, Robert Morris 2 months ago · View
I’m not sure but I think tickets are a bit cheaper for NIT games then a regular season game vs. Michigan State. Also, I think Iowa fans are appreciating where this program seems to be heading. But that will wear off. Guaranteed if they go to the NIT next year it will not have the [...]

I would be pretty surprised if the offense isn’t quite a bit better this year even with a first year QB. Actually I think the O-line and RB situation is pretty good and that always helps.
Mike Williams commented on the blog post Does Iowa-Illinois still matter? 2 months, 2 weeks ago · View
As someone who grew up along the border I can honestly say that Illinois is by far the most hated rival for many reasons. That’s the big problem I have with the rotating schedule in football. There’s no reason that Iowa should not play Illinois and to have an entire class of players go through [...]

Good. Now maybe we can figure out that whole “what do we do on an on-sides kick” thing.
Mike Williams commented on the blog post Iowa-ISU at risk in 10-game Big Ten schedule? 3 months, 1 week ago · View
I don’t necessarily disagree but honestly, Iowa is in the national picture once every 4-5 years. Playing Iowa State doesn’t hurt or hinder Iowa’s ability to go to a bowl game like the Capital One or Outback or wherever their sending the teams. I really would like to see it continue but will I cry [...]

You think the Big Ten is the only major conference scheduling cupcakes?
Mike Williams commented on the blog post Iowa-ISU at risk in 10-game Big Ten schedule? 3 months, 1 week ago · View
I really don’t see how Iowa can give up a home game every other year when it goes to 10 games. If it does. Which is a shame. I know alot of Iowa fans don’t necessarily like the ISU game, they see it as a lose-lose (and in 1997 I would’ve agreed) but that’s obviously [...]

I agree. I would rather just play UNI every 3 years or so than a MAC team. BUT I’d much rather see two or three games against teams from the SEC, ACC, Big 12 or Pac 12. Yeah, I know. Dream on.

I agree that Iowa was lucky to go 1-1 vs. the MAC last year and could very well lose the first game this year vs. Northern Illinois but I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say they out recruit Iowa or any Big Ten team. 9 times out of 10 if a kid [...]

And, as much as I hate to see this happen to UNI, the FCS games are getting old.
Yes, I know Iowa had to block 2 FGs in 2009 and Appalachin State beat Michigan and all that but those games are few and far between.Mike Williams commented on the blog post Could be ‘devastating’ for UNI if B1G drops FCS 3 months, 1 week ago · View
If the Big Ten goes to a 9 game conference schedule (heck I’m hearing they’re considering 10) I wonder if that will effect the ISU series. I, for one, would hate to see that but it’s the way of the college football world now. I think it stays in a 9 conference game schedule but [...]

This team could EASILY be 7-3 or even 8-2 in conference right now. So frustrating. Last night was probably the cherry on top. How that shot by Oglesby didn’t go in at the end of regulation is beyond me. Kind of symbolizes the last month.

Especially once you get past the Ohio State, Notre Dames, Texas and Floridas of the college football world. Get into the 20s and 30s and it’s throwing darts.Mike Williams commented on the blog post Iowa presents its 2013 recruiting class 3 months, 2 weeks ago · View
Seems like a fairly average class but who knows? After the infamous 2005 class I’ve given up hope on trying to figure out recruiting. This class will probably end up like most. A few will be great, some will play a lot, a few will get injured, a few won’t play much and a few [...]
