I’m tempted to believe that the whole darn team is sick & tired of the way things are being run up there & that the ”captain” is dangling those scholarships above their heads saying ”look what you’ll lose if you talk, so sit down & shut up!” Sure seems that way when you bench your [...]

  • Richard Steffens commented on the blog post Column: Vandy deserves some blame, not all of it   6 months, 2 weeks ago · View

I have tried really hard to not come down on Ferentz & Co. at other blog sites but I’m waving a white flag now. I try to explain that I began watching Iowa football in 1970 after my junior year of high school football was over. My God! They were pathetic back then . But [...]

  • I meant ”two whole weeks” not ‘to’—-darn dirty keyboard. lol!

  • Sounds good to me, Mike! And quite possible too. I’ve been telling some grumblers & “Fire Ferentz” guys over at CBS to enjoy it as much as possible now, being 3-2 & having to whole weeks sustaining a winning season. I said .500 at beginning of season but I sure didn’t plan on the CMU [...]

Personally, and I like JVB, but I thought he was way off on about “2 handfuls” of plays. His deep ball touch was pathetic & even a close one he threw at the receiver’s feet. He’s supposed to be seasoned/experienced so he needs to play up. If not, the ‘Clones will bury us.

  • And I didn’t mean to sound like I was picking on you directly, Mike. I should’ve asked if anyone proof reads any more. Believe it or not, I’ve always felt that Cedar Rapids newspaper & TV stations cover Iowa Hawkeyes & eastern Iowa high school sports much better than the Quad Cities do. And I’m [...]

  • I agree with Joe Winn. My one year of junior college 40 years ago almost isn’t enough to help me decipher what a guy with a degree wrote here or TRIED to write. My God! This is pathetic. Go Hawks!

Is it true that there’s going to be another open practice for the public to view this coming Saturday, Mark? I heard this from a friend who was at Kids Day & regrettably, I couldn’t make it last Saturday due to prior commitments. Go Hawkeyes!

Sounds like a talented athlete. Too bad JVB won’t still be here so a lot of folks can ask “Are they brothers?” since the last name is so similar. Hope he pans out & does us some good. Go Hawks!

  • Richard Steffens commented on the blog post Hawkeyes Have All Iowa O-line   9 months, 2 weeks ago · View

No mention of Blythe’s winning a couple of state titles at HWT., Mark??? Come on, man! LOL! I do think that’ll be a big help for any OL to have as experience. Hwts. have to learn how to ‘throw’ other big boys & OL need to do that too—-without “holding”—and it does get done. Cool [...]

Now, you’re clicking on all cylinders, Jay! Yay, Jay!!!

  • Richard Steffens commented on the blog post No. 1 — QB James Vandenberg   10 months ago · View

JVB had a very nice year last year & I feel he could have a better year this year IF his receivers cut down on the drops that they had last year—and yes! Many were catchable.

  • Richard Steffens commented on the blog post No. 3 — WR Keenan Davis   10 months ago · View

Given time, the defense might just surprise some doubters also. DL Alvis, Cooper & others might just “bring it” after getting some OOC games under their belt. LBs & DBs should be adequate also. Good writing by the way, David!

  • There have been a few times I’ve questioned Kirk’s coaching but I still admire the man not only as a coach but as a father, husband, teacher, etc., and just as a good person. But I’m hoping he can “re-impress” me with his coaching in the next couple of years. We fans are “chomping at [...]

  • Richard Steffens commented on the blog post 2nd Annual Big Ten sportswriters preseason poll   10 months ago · View

No sense getting worked up about some fairly new preseason poll. It’s not where you start but rather where you end up at. I’m not setting my expectations too darn high anyway so “Come on, Hawkeyes! Surprise me!”

  • Richard Steffens commented on the blog post No. 3 — WR Keenan Davis   10 months ago · View

Hope my ‘grammer’ is ok–ha ha! And I hope JVB can get the ball to Davis for a thousand yards receiving season. Maybe get CJF about 500-600 yds. receiving and KVM somewhere between those 2 guys. All wishful thinking but quite possible. Maybe, just MAYBE we’ll have a decent running game too. Won’t be long [...]

  • Richard Steffens commented on the blog post No. 10 — DE Dominic Alvis   10 months, 1 week ago · View

I have a friend who taught Dominic in grade school & she says he was an excellent student, nice kid, etc. I’m sure she’s right. Hope he’s got a bit of a ‘mean streak’ in him too. As long as it’s controllable, it’ll help his defensive play. Go Alvis! Go!

  • Richard Steffens commented on the blog post Single-game tickets available July 23   10 months, 2 weeks ago · View

Any idea on price of Minnesota tix? Might be a good one to consider since they’re playing earler in the season & we want some ‘revenge’—-and the pig!:-)

  • Richard Steffens commented on the blog post Ferentz waits for Garmon case to clear up   11 months ago · View

Hope you’re right, Pete! I’m getting anxious to see what changes Davis might have in store for us. And as far as Garmon goes, I hope he learns from this BIG mistake he made and comes to Iowa City as soon as his court proceedings are done. Then, he needs to ‘man up’ and prove [...]

  • Beat me but I’m in favor of at least an 8 team playoff but this will be better than none at all like Barta would want to keep it at. There will never be a perfect solution but at least they’re making strides in the right direction.
