I hope they will keep some transparency on what this remaining amount will ultimately fund. Seems pretty vague as this article is written.

That’s about as likely as…what’s the phrase? Something about flying monkeys and a backside?
Kevin Curl commented on the blog post Do you prefer reusable water bottles over single-use ones? 1 year ago · View
I prefer reusable bottles. I even reuse my fountain cup from the neighborhood convenience store when I take my iced tea to work. It’s getting kind of nasty looking though…
Kevin Curl commented on the blog post Give Penford the respect they deserve 1 year ago · View
As I understood from the beginning of this offer, the skater kids don’t even show interest in that aspect of the park because its not challenging enough, and its not like the city is losing a park out of this deal. Penford will rebuild the park at another location. Probably a better location that will [...]

Disclaimer #2: I had to refresh the article to see this was written by Rick Smith and is heavily quoted by Monica Vernon to reassure my previous stance.

I guess its a good thing none of that streets money was spent on street repair (disclaimer: I only read half of this story but its a safe assumption this is a Sunday morning puff piece about how awesome the streets dept is).
Kevin Curl commented on the blog post What do you think about the city’s flood protection fund plans? 1 year, 1 month ago · View
I’d say its presumptuous of the city to think we should get the lion’s share of any funding. I’d urge state lawmakers to review the city’s priorities to date in how they’ve gone about rebuilding the city before handing this city’s elected officials another handout at taxpayers expense. There are many other communities with more [...]

Amazing, I ‘love’ Cedar Rapids, but Linn County is just so darn fine.

I think I remember him staring down Andrew Dice Clay right next to him on stage while he did his famous adult comedy routine during the live broadcast of one of the MTV awards show. ADC was edited out completely in the follow-up replay.

A good thought, but I remember years ago that Jones County was using that theme as you crossed their border, not sure if they still do.

Kudos to Throgmorton on making the majority of the Cedar Rapids city council seem credible.

You should clarify the slip fees between houseboat stalls and city-owned dock slips. There is a bit of a discrepancy and this article seems misleading. I’d hate for anyone wanting a slip to call and be disappointed.
Kevin Curl commented on the blog post Iowa officials credit cable barriers with improving safety 1 year, 1 month ago · View
Regarding damage to vehicles – hitting those barriers at highway speeds is about a sure guarantee your car will be totaled by insurance standards. And on top of that the IDOT says it will hit your insurance carrier up for the cost to repair barriers? I wonder what that will do to individual and overall [...]

It’s amazing how that number is used by the council when talking to the media. I honestly think it was a made-up number by Prosser in the month or so right after the flood, but it was only $4billion then and for the longest time when justifying anything financial to the media the $4billion number [...]

Now, now, let’s give Rick credit – it took nearly 2 full days since this week’s council meeting for him to spin this in the most positive light.

I was under the impression the amphitheater was to be fully funded with other revenue such as private donations and Corbett’s piggy-bank (LOST). And I would agree with the sentiment that taxpayers should not be paying for PCI’s parking ramp. What is emerging as a shining star in the blossoming medical district the city is [...]

While I certainly admire the initiative by McGrane’s organization, I do question spending grants in excess of $84K with a turnaround of only $57K with the first house. I see it was purchased for $20K, so did they really put over $64K back into it and only sell it for $57K? I understand non-profit, but [...]

Kevin Curl commented on the blog post Do baggage fees play a role in your travel decisions? 1 year, 1 month ago · View
I’d rather they just be upfront about rising costs of business. Hidden and extra charges do weigh in my decision-making. If I see add-on charges like baggage fees, I am skeptical as to what other hidden charges I might be committing to when I make my purchase.
