While their defense did appear to be lacking, I will credit the Irish because it’s not like they were getting all open shots. Alot of their shots came on contested runners or post moves.
I love the energy that Olaseni brings off the bench. Huge lift inside.
While most of your analysis is spot-on, I disagree with the “push” aspect of Nebraska Pass O vs. Iowa Pass D…as long as Iowa doesn’t get burnt on a terrible play (similar to the OSU or No. Ill games) they should have the advantage here. Also, I didn’t realize that Norm had come back to [...]
I think we can calm down on the “Fran is a genius why can’t Ferentz do that” rhetoric. Apples and oranges. You can’t compare switching the positions of two inter-changable guards to anything in football. Besides, Maryland-ES is terrible. We’re talking about a team that won 2 games last year. My rec league team could [...]
Let’s also get rid of useless stats…including my least favorite, “Points per game” as a reflection of team defense. That doesn’t make sense. I heard a sportscaster last week say that the Clippers were scoring very well, but that they were NOT playing good defense because they were giving up 110 a game. That doesn’t [...]
Not sure if I’m not reading your comment correctly, but Rudock was the one who threw the TD pass to Powell and it was a rope and absolutely perfect. The bomb to Powell was from CJB and that was a beautiful throw as well, but that’s what you can do when you have someone who [...]

@miller If he’s a good blocker make him a TE? That’s a ridiculous statement. A good blocker on the outside is vital, and doesn’t transmit to being a good blocker on the line. CJF would have a more difficult time trying to block a quicker DB in space. Not to compare abilities, only analogy, but did [...]
That’s interesting Jim, because he originally “committed” shortly after that 4-8 season finished…at a time when it would be most fresh in his mind. Besides the whole committment/loyalty angle I really can’t say too much about the flip because it is Alabama after all.
They seem to be smart enough to have won the last 4 national cahampionships??? Ridiculous statement…If smart had anything to do with it Northwestern and Standford would have won 48 of the last 50.In reply to - Paul Davis commented on the blog post ‘Horse Latitudes’ – The Vining Yes, Mark, that is how they pronounce my name in Alabama, and usually with about three syllables. Just ask my in-laws. And Mike, try to remember that most of the NASA rockets and boosters were engineered in Alabama. That dumb southerner routine is wearing thin. [...] · View
David, thank you for disqualifying your opinion immediately by mentioning the “taxpayers’ money.” Since the athletic department is self-sustaining, due primarily to the football program, I think mentioning the football coach’s pay is a moot issue. If you don’t like the product, or have a problem with what he is making, then turn off your [...]

No it wouldn’t…he didn’t take it off himself, he got it ripped off. However, with the new rules, he would have to come the field on the next play.
You mean Coach is frustrated? You show me one coach in the country who wouldn’t get defensive post-game when his team is so obviously struggling, and keeps losing close games because of lack of execution. Iowa is 10 points from being 8-2, and 4 points from being 2-8. That’s a little nerve wracking no matter [...]
Don’t think that just because the name is Northern Illinois that they weren’t any good. Sagarin has them ranked higher than Iowa State, and there are more NFL starters right now from NIU than ISU. Plus, we were not at home.
I fully expect the passing game to drastically improve.

Discouraged and frowned upon? YES.
I don’t agree with censorship…but in personal and parental responsibility I do.
@Jay So you do believe that crew, field hockey, hockey, water polo, swimming, fencing, bowling, gymnastics, tennis, and skiing should carry the same weight as football and basketball or even baseball and track. Interesting. I, therefore, lend no credibility to your statement of “worst performing.”
So Bowlsby is the greatest athletic director in NCAA history?
I’m also curious Jay, what are you complaining about? The money? The performance? Are you basing the performance off of the director’s cup standings…where football and women’s crew are given the same weight? If so, kudos to you.
1. We STOMPED Florida and South Carolina in the bowl games when they were “second tier”, and we beat a higher ranked LSU team the year after they won the BCS title.
2. Ohio St has an ESPN all access show…last I checked they were still in the Big Ten.
