Along with alt. rock/punk pioneers. Between Hader and Armisen is Steve Jones(Sex Pistols). Then comes Carrie Brownstein (Slater Kenney and co-star with Arminsen in “Portlandia”), J Mascis(Dinosuar Jr) and Kim Gordon(Sonic Youth).

That is going out on top.

  • Jay Long commented on the blog post My perfect Big Ten bowl scenario   2 weeks, 6 days ago · View

Not leaving much for anybody else. B16 gets the best, table scraps for the rest. One huge problem. Your scenario would justify the Pinstripe Bowl. We had a fantastic time in mid-town Manhattan. Spending an afternoon in Yankee Stadium, priceless. Don’t forget, it was a worthless game played by two worthless teams less than 18 [...]

I’m sure the etymology of most slurs have similar roots, all innocent, of course. What is the 21st century meaning of a slur is what matters. Rick Perry had a weekend retreat. Care to teach the meaning of its name? Please give us more reasons to validate the use of other currently unacceptable race, nationality [...]

What an amazing amount of justifying any outcome as negative. “They suck so much at everything they do and are despicable human beings. We, on the other hand, have proven time and again that we do no wrong and are as pure as the driven snow.” Please come up with something new. Ticket pricing, what [...]

Johnny Manziel was among the highest rated QB’s coming out of high school. He sat out a year behind an NFL draft pick.

Set goals that are attainable, not fantasy. A year ago at this time a 9 win season was all but guaranteed.

  • Jay Long commented on the blog post Hlas: Tiger’s illegal drop drops golf on its ear   1 month, 1 week ago · View

Back in the day, if a tournament went to a “playoff”, the competitors would agree to pool the money and split it equally.

At a tournament like the Masters, every step of every competitor is scrutinized and recorded. For Tiger, every breath is scrutinized and recorded in every event.

Please don’t equate Baylor with MSU. Baylor was 9-9 in the Big XII. I State beat them twice.

MSU was a very good team, Baylor not so much. Izzo is one of the best, Drew one of the worst.

Iowa State restablished itself as a program of national renown. Fred Hoiberg will be courted by the NBA. Only the most talented in the world get that kind of respect. Anybody with a modicum of basketball intelligence knows that Iowa State is a top 25 program right now. And yet, it has begun,….the “we are [...]

Is the Steele Jantz cheap shot really necessary?

I’m sure there are B16 options for that comparison, like Michigan last fall. Remember when the Kiel kid was the next Heisman winner at ND.

    Very lazy on your part.

  • Jay Long commented on the blog post Iowa clears 10,000 tickets sold for NIT game   2 months ago · View

The beauty of the NIT crowd is that the tickets are sold to individuals who fervently support their team. No season ticket holders showing up late and leaving early. I was at an NIT game in Ames a few years ago in some pretty good seats and overheard a woman sitting behind us,….”I have never [...]

  • Jay Long commented on the blog post Hlas: This season has no pity for Hawkeyes   2 months, 1 week ago · View

Relying on a shill for athletics at UI to answer his own question proves nothing.

In almost every game the better team wins. That is why it is called an upset
(Maryland over Duke) when the better team loses.

Small and slow is a bad combination in basketball. Do you think Fran knows that?

  • Jay Long commented on the blog post Hawkeye invasion includes DM practice, billboards   2 months, 2 weeks ago · View

I’m sure that the billboards in the twin cities will trigger the same anger, disdain, ridicule and arrogance that the ISU billboards in CR were met with.

And just think how the gopher fans will feel.

  • Jay Long commented on the blog post New rules: The eject button becomes a thing   2 months, 2 weeks ago · View

“Thursday, the NCAA’s Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a new rule that requires players who target and contact defenseless players above the shoulders to be ejected.” Nowhere does the rule say tackle,…..target & above the shoulders are the points of emphasis. Players who train-wrecked a defenseless opponent have always been subject to a personal foul. [...]

    “Shot . . . has . . . been . . . fired.”

    More,…. like,….an act of,…..desparation.

Battling for spring football dominance? Or for relevance?

This is what happens when marketing guys get too much control.

  • Jay Long commented on the blog post Iowa’s football program has a realization   2 months, 2 weeks ago · View

This charade has the distinct odor of desperation.

Is the Captain all in or had to be dragged in? When the marketing guys take control, we get New Coke, the Edsel, and Disc Demolition night at Comiskey.

  • Jay Long commented on the blog post Hlas: Unsightly, but win still looks good to Hawkeyes   2 months, 3 weeks ago · View

I know that you understand the officiating part of the game as well as anybody. But to say the Monday night Kansas/ISU game has “some head scratchers” is to be in denial of what really happened. Missing the identity of a 7′ caucasian as a 6’8″ african american is not a head scratcher, it borders [...]

  • Jay Long commented on the blog post Hlas: What might (should) have been for Cyclones   2 months, 3 weeks ago · View

That catch must have been memorable except for the admittance of not knowing WHO CAUGHT THE BALL! Nothing that Iowa State does can rise above something that happens at the UI,…..really? I appreciate, and am surprised, at the fallout continuing. Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star, along with another Star reporter/blogger, both posted articles [...]

Well said PG. IIRC, the Bain situation was similar to what happened at about the 3 minute mark in Ames, which compounded the misery. The Purdue player was fouled, just not by Boyle, Krafcisin I think. LO, Boyle, and the local media went into an apoplectic fit, which fueled the masses. Last night, 7’1″ white [...]
