“Lead by example…” Isn’t this the governor who’s been double dipping on his retirement? And he wants other state employees to pay MORE for THEIR benefits…are you kidding me?
Michael Orr commented on the blog post Penford submits sole proposal for Riverside Park 1 year, 2 months ago · View
Wow, what else can the city give away? Let’s see, 2nd Ave East, seems like there was talk about shutting down golf courses not too long ago, now neighborhood parks that don’t happen to be in well to do sections of town. How generous of Penford to relocate a few pieces of equipment to get [...]

Thanks for your service as an army medic Mr. Karels but I’m curious why the reporter didn’t mention at all how many other animals get “caught” in your traps including dogs, cats and other non-game critters. And what kind of deaths do all of these animals experience? Quick, slow, tortuous, drowning, or not? Seems like [...]
Michael Orr commented on the blog post Full Iowa House to consider traffic camera ban 1 year, 2 months ago · View
Gosh, so you want no cameras even though it creates more safety, saves live, saves your children and reduces the need for more officers. Sounds like a bunch of people who just don’t want any consequences for their illegal driving habits.

I am so sick of our city and history disapearing in front of our eyes. I wouldn’t use St. Lukes if it cost me my life at this point. All to park more cars. Are you kidding me?! Build a damn ramp that can handle the traffic needs you are creating and leave our buildings [...]

Let’s see. Ruin the one of a kind ambience and history of the Field of Dreams so a few out of state wealthy business men can exploit the real value of the Field through extraordinary tax breaks to support their hobby itch. It’s a one of a kind entity. If it can’t make it on [...]

Uh, that’s not the government “stealing” your money Craig. That’s just a few out of state, wealthy businessmen robbing from Iowa coffers with tax breaks to maintain their little hobby.
Michael Orr commented on the blog post Questions arise as school recommendations near 1 year, 4 months ago · View
Superintendent Bensen’s assertion that he is not targeting economically poor schools, just those with declining populations, is not true. Think about it. Economically depressed schools WILL likely decline in population more quickly. Those aren’t economically depressed neighborhoods in Marion that growing so rapidly. Instead of building new schools why aren’t we maintaining what we already [...]

Guess I was wrong. Maybe this was news worthy to a few who are looking for something silly to argue about or attorneys playing their own game…

You know…I don’t get how this is newsworthy. In fact, it seems like an invasion of privacy for both of these young adults not to mention their child. This is personal information about people who should not be in the news. None of us need to know any of this. Let’s use some good judgment [...]
Michael Orr commented on the blog post As expected, Iowa Senate halts collective bargaining overhaul 2 years, 3 months ago · View
I keep hearing the question asked about how much public employees contribute to their health care or retirement benefits. The answer is that they contribute 100%. It isn’t a freebee. It is part of their compensation package and they work for every cent of it – just like they do in the private sector.

Thank you Mike for pointing out the big elephant in the conservative room that no one in Iowa wants to talk about! Between 1995-2009 Iowa ranked SECOND in the country in farm subsidies PAID BY TAX PAYERS. That’s right…$21 BILLION but we sure don’t hear a lot of hollering about that! Not to mention the [...]

Michael Orr commented on the blog post Adam Robinson’s mother: Adam needed guidance and direction last fall, was “suffering mentally” 2 years, 3 months ago · View
Think about it. We pay the head football coach of one of our state universities dozens of times more money than almost any other state employee including brilliant physicians, scientists, researchers, state troopers and child protection workers who risk their lives to save others, lawyers and judges, teachers, engineers that design and build our infrastructure [...]

Frankly, I think a lot of you have it backwards. In fact, many of our public employees should be compensated even more than they are now. How could one have more responsibility than to educate our community’s children, protect its citizens by enforcing the laws at one’s own peril, pick up, haul around and work [...]

It sure makes sense to support the homophobes against gay marriage as heterosexual marriages have been so successful (50% divorce rate)!
