Thank you Mr. Vilsack! Might be a band-aid on a heart transplant but it will help for a little while

Looks like it’s time for Mr. Boehner to hit the bricks. He doesn’t have his priorities straight. I seem to recall “food, shelter, clothing”-*food* being #1.

I was wondering why the links don’t work? I’d like to know when and where the meetings are…

  • Janis Owens commented on the blog post How is the drought affecting you?   10 months, 1 week ago · View

I am having the same “problems” with he heat and lack of water as everyone I’m sure. Plants are dying as what you can water them is not the same as a good rain. So far the crops in my area are suffering but don’t look *too* bad-so far-even though I’m sure the production will [...]

  • Hope I didn’t make a mistake with Mr. Nunn’s comment as I was meaning to “flag as appropriate” so hope I did since I completely agree with him-and the rest of the comments, as far as that goes. It is not just Iowa that is way behind when it comes to rail travel. It is [...]

  • Janis Owens commented on the blog post Bill would add gun rights to Iowa Constitution   1 year, 3 months ago · View

I don’t understand why the focus is on one small element instead of the whole picture. The right to bear arms is guaranteed in the Constitution-and for extremely good reason. Look into the *truth* of it and not some pablum invented within the last 30 years. The fact that you lose rights every day that [...]

  • Janis Owens commented on the blog post Iowa Republicans struggling with who to back in precinct caucuses   1 year, 5 months ago · View

For those interested in the Constitution, gun rights and the like, best be careful. The only ones I’ve heard of *for* gun rights are Bachman and Paul-both of which appear to be honest, moral, loyal people with some brains. There seem to be an increasing number of people figuring if the Newt gets nominated, they’re [...]

Funny how all these women never had a word to say about these things this apparently successful man had done until *after* he took the lead. Funny how not all the candidates are treated equal by the media when it comes to “equal time” it being said they don’t have a chance at getting the [...]

  • Janis Owens commented on the blog post Should we keep Daylight Saving Time?   1 year, 6 months ago · View

DST may “finally” end this weekend but I, for one, would like to have it year round to better allow time to get things done around home while there is still some light to see by after work or whatever-shoveling snow for instance.

  • Janis Owens commented on the blog post Do you support the ‘Occupy’ movement?   1 year, 7 months ago · View

H-h-m-m, interesting comments. Kinda trying to compare apples and oranges but that just brings out a bit more. Peaceful demonstrations always have a place. Had more people stayed in Des Moines, perhaps everyone would have been left alone as they should have been. Starting to demonstrate then cutting out serves no purpose. I don’t recall [...]

  • Janis Owens commented on the blog post As Iowa straw poll nears, who’s your GOP favorite?   1 year, 9 months ago · View

The American people have just been played and most don’t even know it! You think the past weeks were *real*? We don’t need any pretty boy dim-wit or “great speaker”. We need a real American with knowledge of our past so he knows where we should be going in the future. One who knows economics [...]

  • Geez, you guys talk like your kid is asking for a quarter raise. What Presidents got by with in the past has no real bearing on today. We weren’t in debt *then* like we are *now*. Do you think China owning the US is the way to go? I don’t. Your kids and grandkids will [...]

  • This will be “settled” by scare tactics, threats, and blackmail-as usual. The fault lies just as much with the American people as it does with the “elected ones” because they do and say nothing, expecting the “other guy” to stand up and put a stop to the BS. I’m sorry, but we *all* are the [...]

  • Janis Owens commented on the blog post Remembering, and forgetting, rural America   1 year, 11 months ago · View

Hard to argue with any of you! LOL Always kinda wondered what agricultural qualifications Vilsack had. Anybody know? I can’t seem to recall that he was a farmer or connected in any way where he’d know anything about it… Well, the plan was to get rid of the small farmer-which they really pretty well have-and [...]

  • Janis Owens commented on the blog post Remembering, and forgetting, rural America   1 year, 11 months ago · View

The majority of the American population look down their noses at “rural America.” Oh, they love to move out among us-then start in trying to change us and our way of life. The government would love to forget all about “rural America” and fully intended to do so even though we supply a goodly portion [...]

  • Janis Owens commented on the blog post Would a state government shutdown concern you?   1 year, 11 months ago · View

If you expect to have services, you have government and pay the taxes to pay for it. I suppose if we all had a lot of money, we could pay to have them without a government as such which would also mean we’d have to oversee it all. Probably wouldn’t leave any time for a [...]

Sorry, this country was founded as a religious nation and you can quote all the know-nothings you like, won’t change a thing.
You read your Delcaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc. What does a treaty have to do with the founding, anyway??

  • This whole country is basically broke. When you are in debt, the whole world is beginning to doubt your currency, printing more junk money and running up inflation isn’t going to solve the problems. Just as we, the people, have to tighten our belts, so does the government. I might also add, as one good [...]

  • Janis Owens commented on the blog post Cell phones, cancer linked: Will you change habits?   1 year, 11 months ago · View

“Excessive reading of the Gazette” won’t cause a “significant loss of IQ” but being closed-minded, sitting around with your thumb “hidden” refusing to learn and/or research anything new just might-and I’m not just referring to cell phones/cancer although those nasty, rude little objects are a pain of another kind. Well, can hardly blame it on [...]

  • This country needs to quit praying to the oil gods. It is a non-renewable resource that at some point-in-time is going to play out. We have subsidized every thing *but* rail service over the years which was a big mistake, IMO. I forget how many semi loads can be carried by one box car but [...]
