Seems that a great way to get a job with the Branstad administration is to lose an election. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Renee Schulte, Nick Wagner. Hmmmm. May have to register as a Republican and run for office…no need to win at the ballot box to come up a winner. Great jobs program, Terry.

Only those hit by the bolts. Crossbow, long gun, bow, muzzle-loader…not much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. No problem, as far as I’m concerned.
Let’s just not approve indirect fire weapons, crew-served weapons, or munitions measured in the kiloton and above range.Joe Stutler commented on the blog post The auditor won’t fight it 1 month, 4 weeks ago · View
It doesn’t “push Miller out of office”. Miller is still Auditor. I’m not saying the Sups are blameless, but neither is Miller. The internal squabbles have been as much his fault as theirs, and he’s been reluctant to work with others. I used to support Miller until he started pushing away even his supporters when [...]

I asked the same question when the deal was done. My guess is political (easy to “vote one’s conscience” when you end up with the benefits anyway), but perhaps he’ll donate it all back to the county. I would suggest Veterans programs and Mental Health funding.

I like the idea. The trash I see along the roadsides are primarily water and sports drink bottles.
I’d also like to see Marion allow glass recycling. Linn County Solid Waste Agency accepts glass, but Marion won’t pick up glass in the recycle bins.Joe Stutler commented on the blog post The auditor won’t fight it 1 month, 4 weeks ago · View
How so, Rich? Miller is still Auditor. The Sups simply took over some areas which it seems they’re allowed to by both statute and acceptable practice as shown in other large counties.

It’s not really a “partisan” issue. Three of the Supervisors are Dems, two Republicans. Seems all of them have had concerns with the Auditor’s approach to things. I’m sure there’s plenty of blame to go around, but seems some folks just don’t play well with others even on the good days.

There should be no minimum wage, because the bible supports slavery.
Are there no prisons? And the union workhouses – are they still in operation?

So, the only folks worthy of a decent living wage are those with three kids? You want to rely on the guv’mint to provide “…food stamps, EIC, Medicaid…” so you can get a cheep burger? You think it’s just old folks, teens and moms looking for pin money that make diddly squat for that cheep [...]

Who is taking your guns away? No one is taking mine. Enough with the Liberal/Conservative bashing, let’s look at real problems with open minds and seek real solutions….and stop getting all worked up blaming the other side without any value added to the conversation. Habitat is a concern, but many farmers aren’t really to blame. [...]

Charlie, how did you come to that conclusion from my original statement? See, that’s the problem with the gun-uber-fanatics. Somehow you found a desire on my part to want some sanity-list or some such (and implied that I would not be on such a list…nice). No indication of any such thing there, yet you found it. [...]

See, that’s the problem with the gun-uber-fanatics. Somehow you found “scared” in my comment. No hint of scared there, yet you found it. I can only think of three reasons as to how someone would conclude “fear” from my comment: Ignorance (the person don’t know me, so they’re just making stuff up), Stupidity (person knows [...]

Depends on the record. I don’t have a problem with concealed carry permits being public record. You want to go forth in public armed? No reason I shouldn’t be able to know about it..
Joe Stutler commented on the blog post What do you think of Branstad’s alternative to Medicaid expansion? 2 months, 3 weeks ago · View
Actually, Fred’s right on this. There are indeed windows in the VA’s health care benefits eligibility. For example, Priority Group 8 vets were denied enrollment under the Bush administration as a cost-savings measure. (Tell my again how Republicans are good for veterans). That particular window has since been repaired by the Obama administration. Fred, you [...]

The motivation behind a decision (and subsequent action) is very important. Seems much if not most of the public opposition to a casino is either 1) Hate Steve Gray 2) Hate virtually everything that might benefit the community 3) Want to keep money flowing out of the community to *their* pockets. I don’t know Gray, [...]

Hmmm….you do realize that news and opinion are generally separate in quality journalism organizations. Even FOX “News” has a Sunday show that tends to be the only part of that organization which attempts to live up to the “Fair and Balanced” moniker. I’ve always got the feeling that Dorman is a person of integrity, and [...]

The moment I read “religious leaders” I moved on. Many of these organizations cry *SIN* then make money off of bingo and Monte Carlo nights. Their idea of “sin” has no relevance to free thinkers.
