I always have to call out these comments: “If Saban came to Iowa I gaurentee you Iowa is competing for conference titles and possibly undeafeated seasons.” That was certainly not the case when Saban was at Michigan State. I don’t believe it would be the case at Iowa either. Saban wants to coach at a [...]
Darrell Wilson (Secondary) and LeVar Woods (LBs) are both black. Probably a good move for Campbell, he’ll have a chance to become an OC or a head coach now. Iowa got him as a total steal from Michigan, never thought we’d keep him this long.

Bielema also could’ve represented himself better in the community in and around Madison. He doesn’t have a good reputation. And there’s some validity to the big game coach argument. I was absolutely livid watching Wisconsin lose the Rose Bowl to TCU, the offensive and defensive strategies were a disgrace. Abandoning the power running game to [...]
Uhhh… Did you not notice all the freshmen and sophomores that were playing this year? One of the team’s huge problems was all the attrition in past recruiting classes forcing us to play underclassmen who weren’t ready. I think your complaint is that the underclassmen YOU wanted to see play did not. But plenty of [...]
Paul, I recommend you read the comment threads on some of the Louisiana newspapers stories about LSU’s loss last night. Pretty much identical to what people have been writing on here for months. And it’s the same thing when Alabama’s status in the title game is jeopardized. You’ve never looked at the level of importance [...]
What was wrong with Amari Spievey? Or Shaun Prater? Or Micah Hyde? Or Tyler Sash?
The ten yard cushion is the scheme more than the player, we can debate the merits of it all we want but it’s a legitimate defensive philosophy.
What folks need to realize is that the Athletic Director’s priorities are different than yours. I’d rate those in order as: 1.) Revenue, 2.) Graduation, 3.) Lack of off-field issues. The latter two could be referred to as “relationship with the university” and “relationship with the community” as well. Believe it or not, compared to [...]
This is an easy question to answer because Nick Saban coached at a very similar program for 5 years in the late 1990s: Michigan State. His record was 34-24-1. He unceremoniously quit at the end of the 1999 season to take a job at LSU (right before his team got it’s first bowl win of [...]
Okay, everyone here who is calling for Kirk Ferentz’s head when they KNOW what kind of buyout that would entail needs to remember that the day after blowing the largest lead in a bowl game in NCAA history to Mike Leach’s Texas Tech, Minnesota fired Mason. As the Star Tribune reported: “Mason will receive a [...]
I wouldn’t agree with that last statement. Prior to losing Scherff and Donnal last night, our OL was one of the highlights of our team. Brian seems to be coaching them just fine. If our OL hadn’t been dominating lines of scrimmage so completely, there’d be no story about Wesiman. As for BOB vs. Ferentz [...]
John H. commented on the blog post Nate Kaeding writes: How Kirk Ferentz leads an Iowa team through stormy times 1 year, 5 months ago · View
I didn’t catch from the essay anywhere where Kaeding was trying to excuse the loss or imply that the team’s recent performance has been acceptable. I think his object is to explain what’s going through the players’ heads right now and describe Ferentz’s coaching style. By that metric, I thought it was a great essay. [...]
John H. commented on the blog post Do these comments from the fired Wisconsin offensive line coach ring a bell, Iowa fans? 1 year, 5 months ago · View
They’re missing Nick Toon (who made it onto a loaded Saints roster at receiver) more than Wilson, I think. Tolzien did just fine running the passing game and he’s not starting in the NFL.

In the last two years, ISU has beaten Iowa by a combined score of 6 points. The two years before that, Iowa defeated ISU by a combined score of 60. In those same 4 years, ISU has made it to two bowl games with a post-season record of 1-1. Iowa went to 4 bowl games [...]
I agree with Paul Davis’s comments above. I’d also add from a military standpoint that, our recent $5 billion camouflage boondoggle notwithstanding, it is considered an HONOR to wear the uniform of your branch. I don’t understand the appeal of these hideous, asinine uniforms to modern players. It should be considered an honor to get [...]
Eh, we should just legalize it. It’d solve a lot of other, much larger problems than this but it would solve this too (other than the Operating issue, come on guys…). News flash: teenagers and college students smoke marijuana at a pretty high rate and have for the last 40? 50 years? Still, it’s the [...]
Given our shortage at the LB position and our general success at recruiting DEs, I think sticking with the 4-3 is a good idea. Especially given that the Big Ten is still a run-first conference (MSU and WI, e.g.). I’m also pretty fond of the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy. I’m more [...]
