Is the Pope Catholic? Do bears do their business in the woods? Does the sun rise in the east and set in the west? Oh wait, I think I just gave the Gazette ideas for future lame questions to use in the Conversations section. Maybe the Gazette could ask a better question, like: Did the [...]

Can’t answer the question based on what is presented here or in the linked article, mainly because there is no mention of who is paying for the new wind farms. How much of the funding is coming from government subsidies; that is, taxpayer dollars? It would be nice if the Gazette printed some, you know, [...]

So, as an example of good faith, do you mean the time Obama claimed the Senate was in recess when it wasn’t and illegally made recess appointments? And ignored the rules on recess appointees that they only serve until the Senate is back in session? Or do you mean the time Obama childishly attacked the [...]

““Debunking” a column by attacking the person who wrote it for not writing the column you would have written if you were he is a rant.” Nice try mischaracterizing, but that’s not what I did. Instead I asserted that the implied central premise of the column (that Republicans are obstructing work on the nation’s most [...]

“So, after this whole rant, Jim” So in your world, debunking the column by recounting the facts that the columnist left out is a “rant”? What a mindless and sultifying place that must be. “are you willing to agree that our Congressmen should want to work together to lead and solve problems?” You couldn’t figure [...]

“With the Senate locked in what seems like perpetual dysfunction, and unable to address the most pressing problems facing the republic, will he or she be part of the solution or one more ranting wrench thrown into the gears?” You mean problems like the Senate not voting on a budget in over two years? You [...]

“If the 1994 ban had still been in place, Adam Lanza would not have had access to either the AR-15 or the high capacity clips.” That is false. “The Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 would have made the Bushmaster AR-15 both difficult to find and very expensive to buy given that the Colt AR-15 (a [...]

Not doing any harm by having “an alternative bill… that doesn’t violate the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens” would be an improvement over current proposals, which harass law-abiding citizens while having nothing in them that would have prevented Sandy Hook.

Make a community safer?
Safer for criminals, maybe.

Well, if women are so fully physically equal to men that they can serve in combat, then why should they get this special priviledge? I mean, equal is equal, right? It sounds like some want to have it both ways. And if it has been 9 months since these women entered prison or were sentenced, [...]

If these cameras are about safety and not money, then why the camera over the J Ave bridge on 380 northbound, mere feet before the speed limit increases? The police claimed that the speed cameras on 380 are there to make sure drivers keep their speed down in the 55 mph zone around the curves [...]

My main point — that Congress didn’t appropriate the spending, refuting your original point, still stands. Congress did NOT appropriate the spending that requires government borrowing to pay for. “…if the debt limit is not raised the approximately $.060 of every dollar now spent coming from taxes will not be sufficient (by far) to pay [...]

“The idea that we limit our debt by not paying our obligations (going into default) is ridicules.” Well it’s ridiculous, but so are you, because not increasing the government’s debt limit does mean not paying our debts or going into default. “Anyone who considers default an option for our country to be either terribly misinformed,” [...]

Actually, they didn’t appropriate the spending. You seem to be forgetting that, although the House has passed budgets for the past two years, Senate Majority Leader Reid has illegally refused to allow the Senate to vote on a budget. So the government has been running on the same budget as that passed by the last [...]
