Cal- I tend to agree with all you’ve said on Barta, but Barry Alvarez shouldn’t be held up as a role model in scheduling. In addition, Iowa finds itself with a major conference team and a top FCS team in our small state, while neighbors like Wisconsin, Minnesota and Nebraska don’t even have FCS teams [...]

Drop the ISU game and THEN see the legislation start to fly. As long as that game is on the schedule, Iowa has it in their minds that no different major conference team is required. In spite of what Hlas says, I’d like to see that game dropped and force Iowa into different scheduling- make [...]
This is bad… I don’t know what, if any, reaction Iowa’s administration will have, but this is a giant middle finger to Iowa from BTN and the conference. It is understood that Iowa is down and likely to remain that way for a while, but when Iowa was up, the MN, IN and Purdues of [...]
Real good point on the quality of the recent Iowa captains. That has made a difference and is reflected in the fan support of the teams the last couple of years. These have been likeable, improving teams.
I don’t know that Alford destroyed Iowa basketball- he did have some good teams, even though the tournament performance left much to be desired. His biggest problem was arrogance, both on the job and in the public eye. Iowa fans do not easily accept that from their coaches, and Alford’s was burning bright at all [...]
Iowa was still on break for the MSU game last January- probably why it did not sell out. I don’t think Iowa fans “love” the NIT, but it is reality so if that’s what you have to work with, go at it as best you can. Team and fans included. Fortunately, this remains a young [...]
Peter Jok was named Iowa’s Mr. Basketball last week, I believe. If you are Mr. Basketball in Iowa, you can play. Past winners include Harrison Barnes, Jarrod Uthoff and Marcus Paige.
I must have missed that one on the Hlog.
