Well said. ( It’s “blackmail” when citizens apply pressure to corporations in opposition to what the senator supports. When they do it in support, that’s something else, certainly not “blackmail”. What is it senator ? )

Cuts in spending on social programs will likely immediately take nearly an equal amount out of personal spending and hence out of the economy. For evidence one might look at Spain which implemented an austerity policy. The GDP slipped .3% in the last quarter of 2011 and .4% in the 1st quarter of 2012 — [...]

Her 2nd-to-last paragraph: After I stopped laughing at the “balance the budget comment” I looked for at least one clue as to how Romney is going to do all these things (whilst of course, chanting the Republican mantra, cut taxes, especially for the rich).

I don’t think you need to look at this thread but rather just observe and listen to see that the GOP has essentially trapped itself in ideology. If the GOP prevails we’ll all be a nation ruled by a conservative dogma rather than by reason and rationality.

So adapting to changing circumstances is “flip flopping”? Most of us have to adapt to changing circumstances many times throughout our lives. In fact, on a natural level, the ability to adapt is the prime requirement for survival of a species. One of the earliest saying I recall hearing as a small child is “a [...]

I agree. Excluding the retired, and the super rich, I suspect 99%+ of those with a net worth of a million or more work.

Faucets and drinking fountains have always worked just fine for us (except traveling where the water isn’t safe to drink). We wouldn’t think of carrying a water container around.

Well, just about everyone wants everyone to be wealthy enough to pay taxes — “what the Republicans want to fix.” (!!) But what are the Republican proposals that learned economists think would accomplish that ? I can’t seriously consider candidates that just speak in platitudes and will-o-the wisp things will be better if you elect [...]

Yes, Will, some of it may have to come from the middle class as well, at least those who are living better than just “paycheck to paycheck” but that’s likely to take that money right out of the economy — hardly a recipe for economic improvement !. That being said, just raising taxes isn’t going [...]

What is your source for any comment by the president to the effect that the definition of rich is anyone who pays taxes ? ( I suspect you just made it up or repeated it from someone who made it up — just one more lie from the right. Document your statement and I’ll retract [...]

Based on past experience, you’re wasting your time (as I’ve wasted mine), Ron. Hubler is in total denial to the extent he’ll provide “evidence” that when you actually look at it obviously says the exact opposite of what he claims. ( A few weeks ago he claimed sea level rise was 1/10 what it actually [...]

“…the determination of cause and effect remains exceedingly difficult”. (That often the case for many things and why extensive scientific research is required to determine cause and effect.) Exactly what in that sentence “acknowledges that temperature leads CO2″ ?

Unfortunately, Mr. Wallace, what has been done and is being done is just the tip of the iceberg of what needs to be done. Regrettably taking the “long view” is not a characteristic of the human race and that character flaw may eventually doom civilization as we know it.

The video obtained by private businesses can be used as an aid to (government) prosecution of one who commits a crime.
You expect police to come to your doorstep, question you, or lock you up for an extended period of time for a camera-recorded traffic violation ?Karl Carlock commented on the blog post ‘Stand Your Ground’ law is working as planned 1 year ago · View
OK, maybe he means law abiding citizen who are innocent of the charges against them turn themselves in when warrants for their arrest are issued. And that has anything to do with SYG laws ???
