Marc, How is it that we signed a 16 year old? Is this kid Einstein and Hercules in one? Spearman (he’ll won’t turn 17 until a couple of weeks into fall camp in August) — “He was definitely a need for us. We went through the entire evaluation process with and felt very strongly about. [...]

Mike, I am commenting on the lack of comments here… Generally any reflective article regarding the coaching situation at Iowa is followed by “beaucoup” comments on Kirk’s inability to ___________ (fill in the blank as needed). Yet over the past three months, as major changes in the program have been completed, there have been few [...]

no my point was this. We Hawkeye fans don’t seem to know the full story here. Kirk is not prone to failure, look at the totality of his tenure and career. His ENTIRE coaching staff flipped over. In essecence the RESET button was pushed and he was the only continutiy. Give the man and the [...]

Before all the nay-sayers on Kirk finish dinner, I want to say that this man has the drive and will bring the Hawks back. I wish we could re-post the comments of many who were dispariaging of Ken O’Keefe and Norm the past few years. 25 Touchdown passes from Vandenburg and the Bend but don’t [...]

As a true fan, I hated seeing the loss, but i hated more that so many fans left the stadium early. This season is a big transition for these kids and coaches and they deserve our full support, the whole game regardless of the score. Stay in the proveribial Stadium my friends!!. Greg Davis is [...]

I say we start a scholarship fund for Jarrod so he can become a Hawkeye. the stipulations from Wuss-consin is that he can’t get a scholarship from another Big Ten School. It doesn’t say he can’t attend then walk on right? I will gladly donate so this young man can play at Carver near his [...]

I met Dan Gable for the first time as a 13 year old in 1983. We were flying home to Iowa from New Jersey and the Hawkeye wrestling team was on the plane returning from a match with Lehigh University. Coach came down the aisle to take his seat which unbelievable was right next to [...]

Tuning him out is kind of sad. If they have seen this before, dont get excited by it, what would happen if he said it straight forward and with the intensity of a teacher instead of a drill sergeant. This is his second year, i bet a dollar he isn’t here for number five at [...]

you are right, his time did come to a close. Doctor Tom was more han a basketball coach, his teams were not devoid of problems, but a better gentlemen in his position is hard to find these days.

We have run the gamet on the last three coaches. One focused on himself then the team, one stoic to a fault, now one over excited, repeatedly. Passion is one thing, but he needs to remember there are kids (under 18) that watch the games, not just the one’s he is screaming at in Hawkeye [...]

So Iowa ranks up there with Notre Dame, Northwestern, Stanford, Rutgers, and the Air Force Academy, none are slouches in academia or sports. That is pretty fantastic. Oh…by the way they get to go to a bowl game and had a decent record this year. No comments for Kirk, Ken and Norm to be fired [...]

Perhaps everyone with a job from 8-5 should tell their bosses they want the day off too so they can be there. As a parent I have to work, but I would like to hear about this from him. I would advise the teachers that feel the same to take the time off like the [...]

Very good article Mike. Young Derby is more like most of us than it seems we want to admit. He is 19 and deserves the chance to screw up and learn from it. I just wish at 19 when I was at Iowa doing the stupid things I did I had a life coach in [...]

I grew up knowing Hayden Fry through TV and Radio. He was like an uncle on TV with things like the Hokey Pokey, dressing up as a farmer, and his serious side with Americans Need Farmers program. There will not be another Hayden Fry, but in ways that is a good thing. Kirk is who [...]

No offense to the young man and his successful father, but please look very hard at UCLA. I like our Hawkeyes the way they are blue collar, farm raised and value oriented. There have been a few from big cities and far away lands. The majority of the young men on the team are clean [...]

Man those 1pm games were the best time!!! Especially if you were tailgating off Melrose, you could arrive around 8-9 have some scrambled egg caserole from the grill, short shopping trip down Melrose, maybe grill a little by 1130 and take the slow walk to the stadium in time to see warmups and read the [...]
