I hope the news stories on ryan’s appearances wil state if the ‘crowd’ was screened for Democrats and is all TP or if it was like President Obama’s open to anyone with a ticket.

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post Secretary of state says rules provide more due process   9 months ago · View

It is the county auditors job to keep accurate voters lists. They have been doing their jobs in the face of budget cuts. Schultz should have rolled out his purge lists 18 months ago. Not on top of a national election. Ask the auditors how many of the people purged from the voter lists voted. [...]

Two dissenters escorted from the staged Romney sideshow. When President Obama had a dissenter in Decorah, Obama met with him after the speech and they had a conversation on his views. Democracy in action.

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post It’s time for fairness in collection of sales taxes   9 months, 1 week ago · View

look at the popularity of the sale tax holiday we just had. this tax is terrible. repeal it and increase the income tax. Also two of those tax percent points, the 4th and 5th cent, were to be temporary taxes when they were enacted back in Ray and Branstad’s previous incarnation. they are all but [...]

  • This is not a Secretary of the Stae issue. The responsibility for keeping the election rolls current and updated belongs to the county’s. They would have better knowledge of ineligable voters than Shultz. And it would cost less. Also, Schultz had one and a half years to enact this purge. Why did he wait until [...]

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post Iowa secretary of state appoints DCI agent to investigate voter fraud   9 months, 2 weeks ago · View

Voter id should have been established when the person first registered to vote. A photo id at the balloting site is unnecessary and intimidates voters. All of this is GOP, oops TP voter suppression. In iowa, I have a bigger worry about computer voter fraud/hacking. Our voting computers have not been shown to be adequately [...]

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post Campaign to oust Supreme Court justice launched   9 months, 2 weeks ago · View

I would like someone gop, oops TP to show me HOW the Supreme Court strayed from a strict constructionist interpretation of the IOWA constitution in their decision. I read the constitution as a liberal and I come with the same interpretation as the Supreme Court did.If the court had decided the other way, then they [...]

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post Spiker’s troubling display of intolerance   9 months, 2 weeks ago · View

Sadly Branstad appointed several of the Supreme court Justices and will not defend them. A real lack of political and personal backbone. Grassley was at the ‘leadership’ conference that endorsed the spiker/TP movement. That runs directly against the Constitutional amendment that set up this process of judicial retention. Grassley, I think helped to author it, [...]

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post Waiting for responsible GOP leaders to say “Enough.”   9 months, 2 weeks ago · View

The Iowa GOP, oops make that TP is trying to make Iowa into a theocracy. The problem comes when we have to decide who’s god is the ruler. The tp thinks it should be the wasp god. My god disagrees. Now we have a religious debate on a civil problem – equal rights for all. [...]

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post Senators defeated bill designed to create jobs   9 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Grassley is not a puppet. He has enough tenure in the senate to do what he wants. He wants to do this. Iowa should have voted him out of office decades ago.

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post Obama’s take hike will hit small businesses   9 months, 3 weeks ago · View

Small business is misnamed. If you look into businesses included in the definition used for taxes, you will find some of the largest companies in the USA. The definition used for taxes is small, as in numbers of owners, not small as in size. We need to factor this in when we discuss the tax [...]

  • By law, this discussion is pointless. Your opinions should be forwarded to B and the Union. They have to negotiate. We are the onlookers.
That said how would you like it if your employer came in and told you he was letting you have a 20% cut in his share of your insurance?

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post State workers should contribute to health care   10 months ago · View

“That’s only fair” If your boss came in and told you he was giving you a 20% pay cut, would you be agreeable? Especially if you had a signed contract. Or if your social security was cut 20%? By law, this needs to be played out in contract negotiations. Not in the newspapers. If you [...]

  • B can ask, but it should be during contract negotiations, not in the press. Asking for this big a cut would be more palatable if B would refuse his pension while he is Governor. iI said when B ran for Governor, remember what he was like before. He has done this before and will does [...]

  • No. We agreed to this in good faith. Asking the union to do this is comparable to Branstad having to forgo his Iowa pension while he is Governor

  • thank you for another opinion piece in the news section. i had better see a piece on romneys failure in england to even things out.

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post Voter fraud issues obvious   10 months ago · View

it is not just getting a photo id, it is all the other hurdles that the voter id laws saddle people with. i do try to see things from the law’s proponents perspective but the rules of this site will not allow me to say where i am looking from.

  • dave ameling commented on the blog post Disclosure can be used to intimidate donors   10 months, 2 weeks ago · View

Disclosure is necessary for me to track if my corp. is donating my profits and dividends to candidates and parties i dislike. Coprs should be REQUIRED to canvas every stockhodler every time the corp makes a campaighn donation. That is what disclosure is.

Because of the way this article is headlined and written it should be on the opinion page. i could have told exactly what B said before you asked him. he wears glasses that are opaque to the ral world. Please report the politics objectively or put it on the opinion page.
