Former University of Iowa Football player Abe Satterfield has asked a judge to delay his pre-trial conference and trial.
His attorney, Alfredo Parrish of Des Moines, on Tuesday filed a motion seeking a continuance, citing multiple factors.
According to Johnson County District court files, Parrish said an expert opinion regarding drug and alcohol consumption needs to be evaluated prior to trial.
Other reasons listed included needing to have more discussions about a resolution, unavailability of key witnesses during the set trial date, and Satterfield's conflicting college activities.
Satterfield, 21, is currently scheduled for pretrial Oct. 1 and trial Oct. 12. He is charged with second- and third-degree sexual abuse for his alleged involvement in a rape of a former female UI student-athlete at Hillcrest Residence Hall in October 2007.
Ex-teammate Cedric Everson, 19, is charged with second-degree sexual abuse for his alleged involvement in the same incident. His trial is scheduled for Nov. 2.
