A federal judge again denied bail today for former Agriprocessors vice president Sholom Rubashkin pending his sentencing on 86 counts of bank fraud and other charges.
Rubashkin, 50, of Postville filed a motion for reconsideration last week. He was convicted last month on the 86 counts of bank, mail and wire fraud, money laundering and non payment of livestock. He faces more than 1,200 years in prison.
U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade denied the motion in a two line sentence without any explanation.
Reade hasn't yet ruled on Rubashkin's other pending motion asking for an acquittal on the charges and for a new trial. The motion contends there was insufficient evidence to sustain the conviction on the charges.
