As the merchandise dwindles and display racks continue to empty at the Sears store in Coral Ridge Mall, shoppers like Don Hodson of Coralville said they are sorry to see it close on Sunday.
“It’s too bad to have it closed. It’s been here since the Coral Ridge opened in July 1998,” Hodson said. “You have to change to be competitive.”
Sears Holdings, corporate parent of Sears and Kmart, sold its building at Coral Ridge last year to mall owner General Growth Properties and announced plans to close the store early this year.
General Growth, which bought 11 Sears stores for $270 million, said it is not ready to announce a new tenant for the soon-to-be-vacant anchor store at Coral Ridge.
If you had a choice, which store would you like to see replace Sears at Coral Ridge Mall?
I would love to see Macy’s or Nordstroms fill that space
I’d like to see Hooters put in there!
Sears. It’s pretty pathetic to not even have a Sears in town, not counting the mini one at Sycamore Mall, of course.
A retailer is a retailer and it makes no difference whatsoever who moves into that space. They all sell the same garbage.
Bass Pro Shop or Cabelas
Ikea. They would do great in Iowa City/Coralville. The nearest ones are in Chicago or Minneapolis.

Red Jacket Firearms would be a great addition. Complete with an indoor shooting range. Rental of fully auto weapons to shoot. Try before you buy others. On site gunsmiths to repair and customize individual purchases. Bring their factory up here too. Give them tax abatement and incentives to bring one of the nation’s biggest growing industries to our state.
oooh, this is about Sears in Coralville? Just add another bar.
