Demonstrators attacked the U.S. embassies in Yemen and Egypt on Thursday in protest at a film they consider blasphemous to Islam, and American warships headed to Libya after the U.S. ambassador there died in related violence earlier this week.
Christopher Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other embassy staff died after the consular building was stormed by militants denouncing a U.S.-made film insulting the Prophet Mohammad.
Iowa’s congressmen and senators universally condemned the attack, with Sen. Charles Grassley saying the incident should be treated “like an act of war.”
How do you think the U.S. should respond to the attack?
Do whatever it takes to get energy independent as soon as we can and get the hell out of the entire region.
They attack because they consider us weak. We were warned ahead of time and did nothing. http://tinyurl.com/9y6vbvx , in the real world the Sec. of State would resign or be fired. They attacked us in the 90′s with zero retribution and considered us weak, we let Libya have elections without giving them time to setup political parties. This left a vaccum and the radical Muslim Brotherhood stepped in.
we should let them take care of it, putting pressure on them
to bring the criminals to justice. what we will do is probably start a war, war is big money to the republicans. we spend more money on our defense than the next 17 countries put together.
This is a very complex and complicated issue. How the US acts may affect the entire region. Nothing good can come from making a statement on this subject before knowing the facts and the potential ramifications of each option. No responsible person would do that.
“How the US acts may affect the entire region.”
We already created a vaccum that put the Muslim Brohood in control, isn’t that enough?
“Nothing good can come from making a statement on this subject before knowing the facts and the potential ramifications of each option.”
See above. The administration got rid of Khadafi and had elections before political parties could form. How’s that for not thinking ahead? Besides it costing us $1B.
Thank you for proving my point. You’re speaking without knowing the facts.
You do realize they killed our Ambassador, right? So, what would you do? Well other than blaming America. You do realize the “movie” the media is trying to blame came out in June to roughly 10 people at the premier. Face it, they were attacking us because it was 9/11 and they know B0 is a wimp and won’t do anything. If you want to play Chamberlain go right ahead and stick your head back in the sand.
Please tell us your source for the claim that “they were attacking because it was 9/11″.
If you don’t know the facts from credible sources, your opinion is based on speculation and is worthless.
Well let’s examine this situation. Our embassies got attacked on 9-11. Of course it had nothing to do with 9-11! No duh factor here.
OH, I almost forgot. The last time someone in Libya killed Americans we dropped a bomb on his house, for the next 25 years we didn’t hear anything from them. Peace through superior firepower. It’s a simple concept that works every time.
I guess that explains the British victory in the War for Independence. And ours over in Vietnam.
As for the incident you refer to, I haven’t a clue what you are talking about
With regard to Lakin’s comment, isolationism is not an option. Oil companies are not interested in “enegy independence”. They are interested in oil and they don’t care where it is or what they have to do to get it.
Besides, there’s the question of Europe which is not in a position to become “energy independent” (aka domestic oil).
More to the point, it looks like things are working themselves out. The Libyan government is cooperating fully, in fact is leading the effort to track down and arrest the people responsible. And it seems the Libyan people are as agast as we are. The more information becomes available, the more it looks like the attack was a rogue operation.
Demonstrations in Cairo have cooled off, and while the latest news reports indicate that while people across North Africa and the Middle East remain upset, things seem to be calming down
First point: Both Mitt Romney and Charles Grassley need to shut up
Second: the US needs to work co-operatively with governments in the region (which we seem to be doing) to keep order. The number one priority of governments at all times and in all places in to keep themselves in power. We need ot keep that in mind and take advantage of it.
Third, we need to make very effort to reassure Muslims that the War on Terrorism is not a war on Islam. We can take a cue from GW Bush on this.
“First point: Both Mitt Romney and Charles Grassley need to shut up”
Very Chamberlain like.
” Muslims that the War on Terrorism is not a war on Islam.”
But when it’s Islam calling for a war on us, how can it not be a war against Islam? Familiar with the Battle of Tours? They’ve been at war with us since the 7th century. The sooner you accept that and understand it for what it is, the sooner you’ll see their end goal.
“First point: Both Mitt Romney and Charles Grassley need to shut up”
Someone perhaps needs to heed their own advice. Those who support radicals are the radicals.
, It isnt this country against that country, It is a group or radicals there that causes problems like the rev phelps type republicans here do. So they need to be hunted down and took care of. The drones seem to be doing good and Give Obama another 4 years and he will get them and they will be punished, like he did Osama Bin Laden. Mitt gets in and who knows what could happen, He could just be gw bush lite.
No, Romney would be Bush heavy. Some have said he would be like Bush on steroids. Usually they are referring to his totally illogical economic plan. However, Romney, like Bush, has also demonstrated a tendency to shoot first and think about it later (if at all).
yeah, Bush went into the wrong country for the wrong reason. he went into Iraq for his war for oil when sadam was in pakistan and afganistan. Mitt would go into Iran when the terrorist are in eygpt and libya,
Well if we leave it up to B0, he’ll cut $129,000,000.00 from the Embassy security. Page 136.

Don’t you routinely complain about excessive government spending? You should be happy that President Obama is reducing government spending.
Rich, a better solution to saving money would be to cut off aid to the Muslim Brotherhood and all anti American countries. But what does Obama do? Continue to fund countries that kill our ambassadors and citizens, leaving ambassys unprotected, have meetings with the Brotherhood and believe it, cut funding to our military and national security. I know Obama is your guy but come on, can he be any dumber? What’s next, hostages?
Abernathy,
your link is to Breitbart.com. Sorry but Andrew Breibart has all the credibility of the Narional Enquirer and the journalistic erhics of a skunk. The web site makes for fascinating reading. It’sobvious where you are getting the information you are basing your posts on.
Oh and the last time I checked, there was no United States in the 7th century
I’d say give the Libyan government a very short time window to turn over the people responsible. Those people can then enjoy what the legal system at Gitmo offers. If the Libyan government fails to comply start ordering drone strikes on suspected extremists.
Mr Chargo,
The Libyan government had absolutely nothing, zero, nada, zip to do with what happened to our consulate or to our ambassador. Kadafy is dead. Repeat. Kadafy is dead. The current libyan government is helping us. They’ve made arrests. It is fairly certain who is responsible for this and where these people are and they are being rounded up.
Would you please give our government and the Libyan government time to get this done before you demand that we start killing people
