Veterans Day on Sunday offers the opportunity to honor our nation’s military men and women who have made tremendous sacrifices for their country.
Here’s a story about five ways to support military members who may be dealing with joblessness, mental health issues or homelessness.
Do you feel our country does enough to appreciate the service of veterans? Does the government do enough to serve veterans wounded or suffering from combat-induced mental health problems? If not, what improvements or changes would you suggest?
When I consider American lifestyles and the corrupt politicians we elect to higher offices it’s painfully obvious freedom it taken for granted. What an insult to Veterans and their families.
Fortunately for we Veterans and our families, the current federal administration has done much in the past four years to improve things…but there’s still a long way to go just to make up for the previous 8 years of incompetence and indifference. Now if only we can get the obstructionist regressives to stop voting against the needs of our Veterans and our country, we may be able to fix things before they get much worse.
Veteran’s Day is NOT the day to promote your socialist/marxist ideologies. Fortunately for all Americans we “real” veterans still believe God and Country come first. Thank you.
David, who are you to tell a Veteran what he or she may choose to discuss on this or any day? Your beliefs are of no concern to me, nor are your disjointed rantings relevant to the conversation at hand. Do try to stay on-topic, or let rational folks enjoy the conversation unmolested. Thank you.
I salute the “Real Veterans”. Thanks for proving my point Joe.
For the sake of understanding, David, please define for us just what you mean by “Real Veterans”.
In a word, no.
Sure, there are parades and ceremonies and such. These are usually put on by Veterans, though.
There are also significant backlogs within the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Simple administrative changes can take 9 months or more, and claims can take much longer. Meanwhile, Veterans and their families go without. Iowa is not at or near the top of the list of veterans benefits by state. At the county-level, Linn does a good job, but other counties can leave much to be desired.
As General Washington said, “The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation.” Our future depends on our present.
First, I would like to thank all the men and women who have served now and in the past, and their families as well. I feel improvements can be made to all the issues the article mentions. It’s my hope whatever improvements need to be made will happen sooner rather than later.
All Veterans deserve the utmost care and respect.
When we lose our warriors respect we lose our warriors. When we lose our warriors we lose our country. How do we lose our warriors respect? By disrespecting them. How do we disrespect them? By not caring for them during and after their term of service.
