The University of Iowa presented a flood recovery report to the Iowa Board of Regents Tuesday at the board’s meeting in Ames, including designs of Hancher Auditorium, the Voxman-Clapp music building and the art building. The images are available here – what do you think of the plans?

What do you think of flood recovery plans for UI arts campus?
  1. I highly suspect that we could get the same functionality in a less elaborate (and less expensive) design. Perhaps some design flair is okay, but are they going too far?

  2. Hancher has been an architectural highlight on the UI campus for 40 years. I’ll miss it. However, the arts culture has sorely suffered with its loss and the people of this rural area deserve a modern, DRY, state of the art performance hall. I’m sure UI won’t make a stupid mistake……as with the Laser Center.

  3. Are the students going to have to pay more in the end? Iowa City as well as Cedar Rapids needs to do the most affordable protection and then let private investors turn the basic into great.
