IOWA CITY – Opponents of the 21-and-older bar ordinance are scrambling to get more valid signatures on a petition seeking to force a public vote on the law.
City Clerk Marian Karr said earlier this week the group is about 1,200 signatures short. They have about two weeks, and one chance, to get enough.
It looks like the Summit Bar and Restaurant is helping with that effort. They've posted information on their Twitter and Facebook pages encouraging people to sign the petition or complete their information if they've already signed.
The Summit is one of the downtown bars owned by Mike Porter, who in the past has been a vocal critic of 21-only.
