For some, like Karen Phillips, this is much more than just a parade, it’s a time to bond with her grandchildren. “This is a family tradition, my grandchildren we bring them here every year,” said Phillips.

For four years, Phillips has been taking her grandchildren, Tyler and Emma, to the parade. Each has their own reason why they enjoy it so much.

When asked what their favorite part was, they responded together, “candy, the signing and bicycles with all the lights,” said Phillips and her grandchildren.

This year, lights and music danced all along downtown Cedar Rapids as 67 entries made their way through the parade route.

“Santa Claus is always a big hit, he is our last entry in the parade and the kids really anticipate him,” said Felicia Wyrick, a volunteer for the Cedar Rapids Economic Alliance.

National Media reports have been aired regarding isolated areas of low water on the Mississippi River. Although areas of the river are low, the lock and dams located in Dubuque have regulate water levels. This helps provide a reliable commercial navigation channel for cruising along to Upper Mississippi.

DYERSVILLE – The Dyersville City Council approved the annexation of the Field of Dreams property, 4 to 1, on Monday night.

The voluntary annexation includes five different property owners, one of which is the Field of Dreams.

These properties will now be part of the City of Dyersville.

This is one of the first of many steps towards The All-Star Ballpark heaven. Go the Distance LLC is headed by Mike and Denise Stillman of suburban Chicago. They want to build what they say will be the Midwest’s largest youth baseball and softball complex, drawing thousands of visitors to the area each summer. Plans call for the $38 million complex to have 24 fields and an indoor training center.

“The annexation leads to the next step, which is rezoning of that property, you can’t rezone property that is not in the city. We cannot develop ball fields there if it is not rezoned and the commercial rezoning is what is next.” Said Denise Stillman, Founder Go the Distance Baseball.

An attorney from Hammer Simon and Jensen of East Dubuque, was also present at the city council meeting. The attorney spoke on behalf of the concerned citizens of Dyersville requesting a referendum and petitioned the city of Dyersville to hold an election for or against the city of Dyersville annexation plans.

DYERSVILLE — The city of Dyersville is one step closer to entering into an agreement with the new owners of the Eastern Iowa site made famous in the movie “Field of Dreams.”

Go the Distance LLC is headed by Mike and Denise Stillman of suburban Chicago. They want to build what they say will be the Midwest’s largest youth baseball and softball complex, drawing thousands of visitors to the area each summer. Plans call for the $38 million complex to have 24 fields and an indoor training center.

This week, City Council members approved a memorandum to serve as a guideline for the next few steps with developers.

“This memorandum of understanding does not commit the city to anything other than continuing this process and working with these people and see if an agreement can be reached under various items that need to be put together to make this whole project,” City Attorney Marc Casey said.

The council is expected to vote on annexing the “Field of Dreams” property at its next meeting, scheduled for July 2.

The site is named for a 1989 movie starring Kevin Costner, based on the book “Shoeless Joe” by W.P. Kinsella. The movie is set on a farm where Costner’s character carves a baseball diamond out of a cornfield and brings to life players from the 1919 Chicago White Sox.

Since the film’s release, the farm has been a tourist attraction for baseball fans and non-fans alike.

The Nuns on the Bus made their way to Dubuque Tuesday.

The Catholic organization is making its way through nine different states.

While in each state, the Nuns on the Bus are meeting with the different people they serve, as well as learning about the harm that would be caused to each state by proposed federal budge cuts, specifically those from Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan.

“The Republican budget passed by that Congress, passed by the Republicans in the House of Representatives, proposed by Congressman Ryan, is all about an individual approach to our nation. It’s not who we are as a nation, it is not in keeping with who we are and we are speaking out against it,” said Sister Simone Campbell, executive director of the National Catholic Social Justice Lobby.

The Nuns on the Bus will be making their way from Milwaukee to Fox Lake, Ill. on Wednesday.

The day allows cancer survivors to get the pampering they deserve. for free.

Throughout the day, survivors are able to choose to receive one free service. Services include: a haircut, thermal style, re-conditioner, paraffin hand treatment or facial.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to give extra love and care to somebody that has been through so much. ” Said Abigail Hurm, Marketing Director of Capri College.

This is the first year Capri College has participated in this Nationwide event.

Due to the weather today, many golfers decided to keep off the greens.
