Joseph “Joe” Konecny Jr., 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. S.E., with Chaplain William Warhover officiating. Burial will follow at Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Betty; children, Scott (Laurie), Susan and Rick; grandchildren, Brianne (Jason), Nicolette and Nicholas (Kaley); and great-grandchildren, Maddox and Hendrix.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Rose Konecny; a brother; and his grandparents.
Joe was born March 11, 1933, in rural Fairfax. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1951 and served three years in the U.S. Navy Reserves. Joe worked at Lattner Boiler Company for 46 years as a receiving clerk and plant manager. In his later years, he worked at Banjo Equipment in the accounting department.
Joe belonged to Lodge Prokop Velky 137 C.S.A. and Lodge 13 W.F.L.A. He had also served as president of the Czech National Cemetery.
Joe played the piano and enjoyed singing. He also enjoyed going to collector shows and displaying his 1961 Corvette at car shows. Finally, he enjoyed playing cards and watching the Boston Red Sox and Green Bay Packers.
