Society has forgotten the word love and its importance in life.

The media are so full of violence it makes me wonder what this world is coming to. Drive-by shootings, bombings, stabbings and numerous other forms of cruelty. You name it, it’s in the news. I shudder when I think about it.

What we need is more love in our lives. Love is the main thing God expects of us all. Love one another as we love ourselves. I Corinthians 13: 4-7 tells us what love is.

A good example is animal love. I once witnessed a young boy pulling a little dog down the street. Every time the dog stopped to sniff an object or start to wander off, it received a sharp kick or the boy would strike the dog. When the boy sat down on a step the dog snuggled close and laid his chin on the boy’s leg with a big sigh and looked up lovingly at the boy. What love. Not once did the dog retaliate. What about you? Could you love so strongly?

I hope I wouldn’t be tempted to strike back. Only God knows and only God can give me the strength to resist and show me how to follow in His footsteps. I can say only, Lord help me to abide by your greatest commandment. Love others as you love yourself.
